Fruit has always been a little iffy in my daily routine. Don’t get me wrong- I LOVE myself some delicious fruity treat, but it’s not every day that you get delicious, organic, and local fresh fruit. I’m a huge fan of eating in season as well as local: in this way, my body gets used to what it’s eating and there’s no chance of any preservatives from shipping.
Not to mention the environmental and karmic returns from eating locally and seasonally.
Well- lucky for me! This week I’m in the North Carolina mountains where the summer berries, apples, and peaches are just out of this world. We just so happened to find some muscadaine grapes as well- grapes that I got to try for the first time!
Muscadine grapes with seeds are an incredible source of resveratrol, which has been labeled the longevity gene and has even been linked to prevent cancer. They taste just like the perfect purple grape juice, and their skins are pretty tough. A small handful is a wonderful addition to any smoothie, since the blender will kind of break apart the outer skin, pulverize the seeds, and make it easier to digest and assimilate.
And the green smoothie even came out “need-a-spoon-consistency” — my favorite ever!
Take 5 minutes to blend, and 30 to eat! Savor this delicious health treat.
