Patio plants

Posted May 25 2011 4:05pm

'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Cicero 106 B.C.- 43 B.C.

I adore this quote, what advice to live by. Now that spring has finally made it's way ( here in northern MI anyway), there is no better time to start the summer in a very healthy way. Start a garden with your family.

In the simplest of ways, you can pot some vegetables in pots on your back patio. Anywhere you buy flowers, you can pick up plants already growing in containers or you can buy the seeds and start the process yourself.

Patio tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and many more varieties are available. Then, when ready to harvest, you can involve your children in planning a wonderful, healthy dinner. Make pizza with fresh tomatoes. Add garden herbs, or grill the fresh vegetables hand picked by little hands. This is a teaching moment as children have the pride of seeing something planted come to fruition, and nourish their bodies.
