Outside Magazine 50 Best Places to Work: Take Your Job & Love It

Outside Magazine’s annual “ 50 Best Places to Work ” list is out. This issue always gives me hope that one day I can work for a company that I truly believe in, and have that Oprah moment of loving what I do and not realising it’s work. As I sit here in England, the husband is certainly living proof that you have to take your dreams by the horns.
I can’t help but notice in this list of 50 just how many companies are based in Boulder, CO. That city really may have it all. The top three included, Natural Habitat Adventures, EMPSi and Sterling-Rice Group.
From the list, a few of my favourite best places to work where I wouldn’t mind sending an application
1. Patagonia : This company is serious about work-life balance. Employees are encouraged to workout during the workday. Patagonia’s founder, Yvon Chouinard, penned the book, Let My People Go Surfing, a brilliant metaphor for the company’s ethos.
2. TRX Training : You had me at, “They love the employee-only group workouts at noon every day and the fact that it’s normal to sit (on a stability ball) at their desks and conduct business dripping with sweat from the group workout.” A fit company indeed. Talk about killing two birds with one stone.
3. Osprey Packs : Wicked. This company has gear around the office just waiting for employees to test and take out and about. And a company that gets as geeked about the holidays as I do is a winner, “The Osprey Stress Free holiday grants additional time off to Osprey team members during the busy holiday season.”
Life is about living to work, not working to live.
Let’s hear it: do you work for a company that you absolutely adore? What company do you think would be a great place to work?
