One thing I love about NYC is the food. I don’t recall ever having had a bad meal. Of course some are better than others, but you can’t beat the convenience and variety of so many delicious dining options, from completely casual to super fancy.
Friday night we ate dinner at Dohyo , the primary restaurant at the Yotel .
“Dohyo caters to social diners with menus of small, shared plates that showcase Chef Richard Sandoval’s signature Latin-Asian cuisine.”
edamame & shrimp ceviche (red pepper/cilantro/avocado/wasabi mousse)

one of the best seaweed salads I’ve ever had (apple/carrot/seaweed/daikon/ginger vinaigrette) & crunchy shrimp for B (lemon sake aioli/sesame/scallion/masago)

B’s favorite – halibut sliders (crispy tomato/rémoulade sauce) and black cod (pickled artichoke/teriyaki-balsamic reduction/lemon sake aioli)

We loved this place, and while the hotel took care of our meal as part of the review, the price point was very reasonable, and we’d likely return with a group of friends for the delicious food, fun atmosphere and fabulous service.

Saturday we met friends for a late brunch at Traffic in Hell’s Kitchen near our hotel. The food was pretty good, but the highlight of the day was bottomless mimosas. After all, we were celebrating Billy’s birthday! We stayed long enough to complete a full brunch, and the birthday boy ordered wings several hours later…

We took a nap and met more friends for dinner at Chimichurri Grill . With endless dining choices in Manhattan, it’s nice to have a friend recommend a neighborhood favorite. Traditional Argentine cuisine – heavy on the beef. Billy had his favorite cut, a huge rib eye. The menu also had chicken, fish, salads, and veggies.

And a delicious flourless dark chocolate cake to share.

There was also a Sunday brunch with friends at Peels . I highly recommend this place. Fresh food, charming atmosphere, good service, comfortable booths, and a bakery.

I had the egg white omelet which was dense, yet fluffy, and a glorious fruit salad with mango, apple, pineapple, banana, grapes, grapefruit, oranges, & pomegranate perils.

We went to a friend of a friend’s home in Brooklyn to watch the Super Bowl on Sunday night. A true smorgasbord of eats and treats. I didn’t capture it all, but there was everything from chips and salsa to lasagna, French bread, Caesar salad, fried catfish, chicken wings, cupcakes, & fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies. Me? I finished off a family-size hummus with 2 kinds of gluten-free crackers in the 1st quarter.
I won for the final score in our squares game! Can you see my winning Bird square?

And of course there were some typical Bird-eats while in NYC. I rarely travel without hitting up Whole Foods, and this time I scored the most delicious kale Waldorf salad: kale, green apple, celery, golden raisins, grapes, and walnuts.

favorite Super Bowl food?
(not a football fan?) what’s your favorite snack to eat during a movie?
