Some of us at one time or another have had the stiff back from "hell" and the old familiar phrase runs through our minds or escapes our lips: "Oh my aching back!
I am one of those who experience a stiff back from time to time. Through my research I have found a way to help eliminate the stiffness through exercise.
It is the Winding Down Twist.
Sit crossed-legged on your bed with your back straight. Reach across your body with your left arm and place your right hand on the bed behind your back to steady you as you twist to the right. Breathe deeply. Return to center and twist again, this time to the left. Hold on for as long as is comfortable, about a minute.
Twisting is like wringing out a sponge--it gets rid of toxins that build up in the middle of your body. It also alleviates soreness in your back.
Personally for myself, this does help, not always as there is another trigger for back pain, however I highly recommend this only if your healthcare provider has given you the okay.
