Obesity has been on the rise in the United States for quite some time. This is not a shocking development, however; the CDC released startling numbers this past Tuesday stating that 2.4 million more adults were obese in 2009 than in 2007. Obesity truly has reached epidemic proportions. In every state, at least 15% of adults are obese and in nine states over 30% of adults are obese.
Obesity is measured by body mass index. If a person has a body mass index greater than or equal to 30, they are considered obese.
