NYC Food Haul

Posted Aug 29 2011 12:34pm
Hey hey lovelies!

So I’ll do separate posts on my adventures and my foodie haul because I got quite a bit! I’ll do the food haul first because I know you’re all dying to know what was in those bags of mine! :) Obviously I was very eager to buy plenty of yummy foods on my trip so I only took minimum clothing and the biggest suitcase I had to make sure I had plenty of room to load up! In NYC I was just in food heaven. Even the little newsagent stores had Luna bars, Clif bars and alsorts of other kinds so they were readily available for on the go around the city which was just fantastic!

My main store to get to was Wholefoods and I also bought things from Trader Joe’s and the Peanut Butter & Co Cafe. In fact, I ended up going to Wholefoods and Trader Joe’s as soon as I got to NYC so I was really excited!! However this also meant that I had really tempting foods in my room whilst I was staying there so a lot of them that were supposed to come back with me..didn’t make it hehe! You have no idea how much I tried to resist having more, I tell you now.

When I was in Wholefoods I bet you can picture my face when I walked into this aisle…

I actually squealed. My mum was with me whilst my brother and Dad waited outside eating a pretzel (lol) and she was like ‘umm okay, it’s cereal?!” She clearly does not understand the amazingness of Puffins..and neither does she know that I’m an addict to them..

So onto my haul from Wholefoods and Trader Joe’s..

First up: cereals! Because I am the cereal queen..

Peanut Butter and Chocolate Puffins, Peanut Butter Puffins, Original Puffins, x2 Cinnamon Puffins

And I ate one box of Peanut Butter Puffins whilst I was there. They were just way too tempting in my room!! These are going to be gone before I know it. I have worked my way through half of three boxes already just last night. That is what tiredness does to me..I was desperate to get my hands on the new Peanut Butter and Chocolate ones as you can’t get them on iHerb. They taste good and I prefer the size of them compared to the larger PB ones but the cocoa ones just don’t compare to the PB ones! I also got the original as some bloggers have recommended them even over the PB ones but ummm..not me. They’re nice, but just..plain. I’d say my preference with these would be the smaller PB ones in the PB and Chocolate box along with the cinnamon ones! But…I’ll take any really :P

Fiber One, Trader Joe’s High Fiber Cereal, Kashi GoLean

Kashi GoLean is my cereal to-go every morning because of it’s protein content as I have my main part of my breakfast after I workout so I was sure to get at least one box to add to my supply. And as for the fiber cereals, I love bran type cereals because they taste so good!

Kamut Puffs and Bear Nakd Fit triple berry crunch granola

After seeing Kamut Puffs all over the blogging world, I thought I’d give in and try them! They are plain tasting but mixed up with other things they taste great! And I had been wanting to try this granola for some time as I love granola but I’m not so keen on a lot of the UK ones except for the Bear Nibbles bags.

Next up are the snacky foods!

Barbara’s Bakery Vanilla Snackimals, Barbara’s Bakery Oatmeal Snackimals, Nana’s Berry Vanilla Cookie Bars, Annie’s Bunny Fruit snacks, Barbara’s Bakery Multigrain Fig Bars

I was desperate to get my hands on some snackimals after seeing them on Tori’s blog because they look so cute! I’m a sucker for cute foods, kitchenware…just anything! The vanilla ones that I’ve tried taste sooo good! They remind me of ‘Party Rings’ biscuits but without the icing that I had when I was a kid! The fig bars are really tasty and are basically a healthier multigrain version of Fig Rolls which I used to love too and I already knew I loved the bunny fruit snacks, so tasty!

I got the cookie bars because as you all know, I just love my baked goods. I also got two tubs of these:

Vegan Oatmeal Raisin Bitesize Cookies

These were insanely good and I ended up eating both tubs whilst I was there boo!! What can I say? I was missing my muffins and these made a suitable substitute!

And then there are the bars…oh so many bars. And this isn’t even all of them. I had at least two a day..

Luna Bars: x2 Iced Oatmeal Raisin, the new Chocolate Dipped Coconut, x3 S’mores (my favorite that I’ve tried before my trip to NYC), x2 Peanut Butter Cookie, Blueberry Bliss, x2 Cookies ‘n Cream Delight

I wanted to get so many more flavors but I thought I’d just get the ones that appealed to me most! I was kinda disappointed that I couldn’t find any of the mini Luna Bars anywhere or any mini Clif ones either because I was really hoping to get some. I find the mini sizes easy to carry around and because when I snack I like to have a few things at once for a variety of flavors I find they suit me more. However, I’m definitely not disappointed with these hehe! I’d say Luna Bars are my favorite bars!

SoyJoy Berry, Kashi GoLean Chocolate Malted Crisp, Luna Chocolate Protein, Luna Chocolate Cherry Almond Protein, Luna Cookie Dough Protein, Gnu Peanut Butter, x2 Gnu Banana Walnut, Gnu Chocolate Brownie, Trader Joe’s FiberFul fruit and veg strip

Obviously more Luna Bars! Can’t wait to try these ones! I’ve already tried the Gnu Banana Walnut, Cinnamon Raisin and Orange and Cranberry flavors. My fave so far was the Banana Walnut so I got a couple more of these and wanted to try the other two flavors that I haven’t tried.

ClifKid Z bar x 2 Peanut Butter, Chocolate Brownie, Chocolate and Blueberry flavors, x2 GoFree Gluten Free Dark Chocolate Crunch, GoFree Gluten Free Carrot Cake, Cinnamon Roll Larabar, thinkThin Chunky Peanut Butter

I was excited to get my hands on the ClifKid Z bars because for me, they are a perfect size for a snack without being too heavy. The GoFree bars sounded interested and carrot cake in a bar?! Umm yes please! I got the Larabar simply because they are discontinuing this flavor apparently but honestly, I’m not a huge fan of Larabars. They do taste good but I find them way too calorie dense for their size just for a snack! And I got the thinkThin bar because I love peanut butter bars hehe!

Next up: chocolatey stuff!

Dark Chocolate Covered Goji Berries, Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate covered blueberries, Dark Chocolate Adora disks, Alter Eco Fairtrade Dark Chocolate Cacao and I got some stevia extract too

I love love love dark chocolate fruit so I immediately picked up the goji berries and blueberries! And I was eager to get the Adora disks because what better way to get your daily dose of calcium than in chocolate?! And the chocolate bar sounded good with the crunchy roasted nibs in!

And finally (phew!): nut butters!

PB & Co: Cinnamon Raisin Swirl, White Chocolate Wonderful, Dark Chocolate Dreams, Mighty Maple, sachets of x2 Smooth Operator, Dark Chocolate Dreams

Better’n Peanut Butter and sachets of Justins: x2 Chocolate PB, Almond Butter and Chocolate Almond Butter

I decided to try some of the Justin’s in sachets to see if I like them first and I will get some another time in jars if I do but I have so much peanut butter right now haha! I also got the Better’n Peanut Butter because it’s all natural but less calories/fat only because recently I’ve been eating peanut butter rather excessively. However, this just tastes horrible!! I’ll stick with my copious amounts of the real stuff any day! And of course, PB & Co being my all time favorite, I definitely had to stock up on my two faves that I’ve tried so far: White Chocolate Wonderful and Dark Chocolate Dreams but wanted to try the Cinnamon Raisin and Mighty Maple. I actually got the PB & Co ones from the cafe:

Unfortunately we’d already had lunch by the time we’d got there but next time I would love to eat there! The menu is simply amazing and they can even do vegan bread! The Mighty Maple is sooo yum but the Cinnamon Raisin Swirl is okay..not my fave though.

So there you have it! I can definitely say that my cupboards are full of such yummy foods..but they are not going to last long!

Have you tried any of these foods?

Which are your favorites?

Any recommendations for more foods I should try in the future?
