First off, what is Greek yogurt anyway? Essentially, it is yogurt that has been strained to filter out the watery-whey component. This process gives it a thick and creamy taste while still preserving the characteristic tartness of yogurt. Benefits of Greek Yogurt vs. Regular:
Unfortunately regular Greek yogurt also contains higher amounts of saturated fat, so choose the 2% or fat-free variety, or you might end up eating over 100% of your daily recommended value of saturated fat in one sitting! Another downside can be the price, with some brands costing twice as much as regular yogurt. That being said, when you look at the benefits, it appears Greek yogurt can be a healthy and flavorful addition to your diet. So, if you are reaching for a snack, you can't go wrong with low-fat yogurt, whether it is Greek or regular, but for extra benefits and a creamier texture, grab a Greek yogurt and give it a try. I find plain Greek yogurt to be a little bland for my taste buds, but I love the creamy texture, so I just mix in some cereal or buy the variety that has a side of fruit you add in. Happy eating! |

I feel like I might possibly be the last person to jump on the Greek-yogurt bandwagon, but once I started eating Fage and Chobani instead of Activia light, I was sold. It is so rich and creamy and doesn't have that preservative, sugar-filled taste a lot of flavored yogurts have to make up for their lack of flavor. So all of this yogurt love got me wondering what the benefits of Greek yogurt are. We all know yogurt is a great addition to your everyday diet, but what about Greek yogurt?
