Nursery prep, music, and a failed pound cake.

Posted Jul 30 2012 7:56am

G’morning!

If you’ve been around the blog long enough to be privy to the most embarrassing, nearly 10-minutes-of-your-life-you’ll-never-get-back, sing-a-long vlog , then you’ll recall that I have an incredibly eclectic taste in music. Right now, it’s showing in my Spotify queue…

The randomness seriously cracks me up.

So, good news! This weekend was all kinds of productive in the nursery prep department. I feel like weekends are 100 times busier than weekdays, since hubs and I have two and half days together in which nothing else is taking up our time. We’re very much living by checklists and timelines right now.
Friday started with a shipment from Pottery Barn Kids. Here’s just a sneak peak at the bedding collection :)

{by the way, all iPhone photos again today.}

I can’t get over the cuteness! I washed the crib sheets and crib skirt; they’re super soft, which makes me super happy. Side note: Tiny little fitted crib sheets are no less difficult to fold than king size fitted sheets. Sigh.

Friday night turned stormy, so we headed to the mall to see what else we could find for the nursery. We actually found several things that were still on our list, but I think that I was, momentarily, most excited about this find:

That’s a chocolate caramel dipped granny smith apple. Mmmm. Between hubs and I, it was devoured pretty quickly.

Saturday we spent nearly the entire day walking around what is, apparently, the largest antique mall in the south, The Depot . Cheyenne first told me about this place back in the winter when she shot this adorable engagement session there; I’ve been meaning to go ever since!

Between the heat, the 85,000 square feet, and being nearly 8 months pregnant, it took us awhile to walk around. We were there for hours and still didn’t make it through the whole thing! There was just SO much to see and so many pieces that I wanted to fall in love with. One of my favorites that I came home with is this adorable blue love bird. She’ll sit on a bookcase shelf in the nursery :)

A few other nursery things that were accomplished this weekend:

We finally decided on, purchased, and assembled our pack ‘n play! I’ve been researching and obsessing over which one to buy {pregnancy has made me incredibly indecisive,} so I am absolutely relived to have decided on one. We picked the Graco Pack ‘n Play Delux . I wanted something with the newborn napper because nearly every mommy friend has told me it’s a “must,” and I wanted something with some sort of shelves/storage for when we travel, as well as to just have a place to stash diapers and wipes on another level of the house.

Craft time was a big part of the weekend, too. Hubs refinished this shelf for me and painted some other goodies for a project that I’ll show you this week. Haven’t decided exactly where in the nursery this will go, but I’ve had it for years and just love it. It was ugly hunter green and pine before this. Gahg.

And we put up this adorable decal in her bathroom…

The nursery bathroom is almost complete, I’m excited to share it you guys!

And, Benny protested getting out of yet, another, nursery basket.

I do not understand your phrase, “That’s not for you, it’s for the baby.”

Last night, in an attempt to wind things down, I got all domesticated and made a strawberry pound cake. Look how amazing it looked!

Seriously, I was pretty proud of myself.

Sadly, when I tried to turn it after it cooled, it looked like this…

So, I decided to whip up some butter cream icing with which to glue all the pieces back together.

See? I can totally do this whole housewife thing. No big deal.

Happy Monday. :)
