Sunday is the Hyannis Half Marathon and although I will be heading down there tomorrow, I will not be a runner. Obviously I am totally bummed. I thought after over a month of rest I would be able to get right back into Half Marathon training in order to be ready for this Sunday but it just is not going to happen. Although my IT band issues are getting better, I am still in the easing back into running. I have run 3 times in the past two weeks without any pain but I have only been able to manage about 3 miles. The strength training and yoga is definitely helping but it just going to take some more time.
I have my eyes set on a late summer or early fall Half Marathon, I’m just not sure which one yet so I can take the IT band issues day by day. I definitely don’t consider sitting on the sidelines watching people I know run a favorite thing, hence the title of this week’s post. However, I know it will be better for me in the long run both mentally and physically, to sit this one out. Plus, I will be able to use my nice camera to take a bunch of pictures and I am still able to get out of Boston for the weekend!
Has anyone else had to sit out a race due to injury that you really wanted to run in? How long did it take you to recover from that injury? Did you still go to watch the race?
