The week ended with what I expected to be an expensive weekend because of an away football game (UF vs. Tennessee). Paulette and I ended up buying a 12-pack of Heineken light $13.85 and watched the game at a friend’s place. The friend provided excellent food and snacks which we saved on. Alcohol consumption/ spending must be reduced in the coming weeks.
In one week, having a set budget has provided great insight into our personal spending habits. I am becoming aware of items that are a waste and things that are bargain buys. I believe we are disproving the myth that eating healthy cannot be cheap. Processed foods tend to be less filling and quite expensive. Fresh foods taste great, provide valuable nutrition, and has enabled my girlfriend and I invaluable bonding time during food preparation.
We plan to go shopping again tonight for our 2nd week. I will add that shopping list tomorrow.
