My man stayed home from work today...and from church yesterday. He and the little man haven’t been feeling so hot. So I took full advantage of having him home. It is really really cold again. I was NOT looking forward to bundling up and pushing the stroller through the snow. Thank goodness my man felt sick this morning ;) I mean that in the nicest way possible!

So I went to the gym and ran in a perfect, temperature controlled environment. I got to run in my shorts, my favorite cut off t-shirt & of course my NEW SHOES !! They were/are great. Love love love them!

DSC07160 4.5 miles – 36 minutes. Started at 8:30 pace and the fastest I pushed it was 7:30 pace (for a mile). My shoes are so fast!

I was watching tv while I was running and a commercial came on for the 'Got Milk?'® campaign. Their new slogan (at least it was new to me) is “POUR ONE MORE”.

It’s a great reminder, especially for us ladies, to meet the daily dairy recommendations.

dairy recommendations

Dairy has been promoted in lots of ways but the biggest reason I drink it is because my bones need it (I have a little bit of a family history with osteoporosis). Women in general are at such a high risk of OSTEOPOROSIS & OSTEOMALACIA , it’s kind of stupid not to get the recommended amount of dairy in your diet. Harsh, I know...but it’s true.

And it’s not just about the calcium & vitamin D...dairy products have LOTS of nutrients available, including:

  • Calcium
  • Protein
  • Vitamin C
  • Iron
  • Potassium
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin D
  • Riboflavin
  • Niacin
  • Vitamin B12
  • Phosphorus

I think dairy is the ONLY thing I actually get enough of each day (fruits & veggies is another story...I’m trying though!!). DSC07134

How I normally meet/exceed MY dairy needs [3 cups]:

  • BREAKFAST – a cup, or so, of milk on cereal (or if I’m not eating cereal, I drink a glass)
  • LUNCH – string cheese, yogurt, cheese on sandwich
  • SNACK – string cheese or yogurt [whatever I didn’t have for lunch]
  • DINNER – sometimes I drink a glass of milk
  • DESSERT – sometimes we eat ice-cream, and yes it counts [not the healthiest choice, but it counts!]

I do try & mix it up, you know...with different types of cheeses. But really...that is usually what I eat to meet my dairy recommendations.

So, all of you out there that aren’t getting enough dairy in your diet...shake things up a bit &

FYI: 'Got Milk?'® has a current promotion to win FREE MILK FOR A YEAR . How stinkin’ cool would that be?!
