Hi Friends!
Happy Saturday!
I am so excited about the weekend because I get to do plenty of relaxing and a whole lot of nothing
Ok maybe not nothing, but there is nothing super important going on with plenty of fun stuff thrown in as well.
I did something on Friday night that I have never done before.
I ran 19 miles after being at work for 8 hours.
Yep, I felt kind of crazy, but I had to do it. Check out the forecast for today:
I didn’t want to get caught in the rain/cold and I didn’t want to put off my run until Sunday – when I’ve done that in the past I never seem to get enough rest and then the workweek is terrible (I’m tired and exhausted and can’t seem to catch up on sleep). So Friday it was.
I got home from work around 5pm and quickly made dinner for Jason and me:
Scrambled eggs and a sweet potato loaded with some butter, cinnamon and brown sugar. It tasted so good and seemed like good pre-run fuel. I then changed clothes, loaded up my water bottles and headed out.
I decided to run laps near our house in case it started to rain. I used Map My Run to figure out a good 2 mile loop and that way I could run that 9.5 times and then walk the last .5 mile to start recovering. I normally hate running laps, but it seemed like the best option at the time.
The first 4 miles went great but around mile 5 I started to feel really sluggish. My legs felt like lead and I seriously wanted to cry because I knew I had so much more distance to cover. I kept at it and would walk/drink for a minute or so after each 2 mile lap. I had a Gu at mile 8 and another at mile 16. Before I knew it, I was done with 16 miles! I decided to take a different route (that I know pretty well) that would have me running 2 miles out and then 2 miles back home which would bring my total mileage to 20 miles.
It got dark quickly. By now it was close to 9pm! I was starting to feel really stupid for taking this different trail – it was not well lit and pretty secluded. I was starting to wish that I hadn’t done this. I was so close to getting to the turn around point but I didn’t want to run home in the total darkness. As I’m thinking about this, I start wheezing – I couldn’t breathe, my chest felt really tight and I didn’t know what was going on. I sent Jason a text with where I was and what was happening and asked him to come get me. I finished mile 18 and waited for Jason to arrive.
Jason got there in just a few minutes and we drive home – I tell him what happened and also that I want to get to 19 miles today. So once we got home I headed out and pounded out one more mile to bring my total to 19
After a protein shake, ice bath and shower, I was feeling much better.
I’m not sure what my time was, but I started running at 5:50pm and Jason picked me up at 8:55pm, so I was running close to 10 min/mile pace which I am pleased about!
I hope you all have a nice weekend!
