National Running Day & Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts WINNER!

Posted Jun 08 2012 12:00am
I would like to start off by saying that I am not sure if National Running Day is strictly a United States thing or not.... but I went ahead and celebrated it here in Canada by going out for a little 4 km run! I haven't gone for a run since the Sporting Life 10km last month, probably because I was a little discouraged with my time and I was having some hip pain afterwards. However, I figured since it was National Running Day on June 6th, I should get out and enjoy the nice weather and see how the ol' hip was feeling.

To be honest I am surprised I even dragged myself outside for a run today because I had an upset stomach and headache for most of the day but I thought to myself...Push.Pump.Progress baby!!! and proceeded to go out for a run! I was feeling pretty good once I got going. The temperature was perfect, the sky was blue and decided to run a different route! Oddly enough on this particular day I took off for my run without realizing I had completely forgotten my MP3 player at home!! As you probably know from my  previous post I LOVE running with music. I didn't feel like turning around so I continued on.
Lucky for me I didn't bring my MP3 player with me on this particular run because half way through a thunder storm literally came out of no where and I was caught in a major down pour! I picked up my pace and took a short cut home. One thing I did discover about getting caught in a thunderstorm while running is that I can move my little butt up hill A LOT faster than I ever thought I could LOL.

Post Run: Dripping wet & unimpressed! lol

It is likely going to take a couple of days for my shoes to dry out, but one positive thing that came out of my thunderstorm experience was that I had picked up speed and had NO hip pain!! I had resigned myself to the fact that my long distance running days were over a few months ago (I don't want to have hip replacement surgery at the age of 45 or anything), that being said I think I could really begin to enjoy improving on my 5 km race time while continuing to weight train 5 days a week!

My next event is the Spartan Sprint in Toronto. This is a 5km race with 10 - 15 military style obstacles, so I will be able to use both my weight training and running to get me through this one!

QUESTIONS:

1. How did you celebrate National Running Day?

2. If you are not a runner, what is your exercise of choice???
