Hello Cathy.
My background is as a therapeutically trained Yoga Teacher so I'm responding to you from that perch rather than the perch of a wester medical practitioner.
There is some very interesting and powerful research on circadian rhythms. While not directly pertinent to your inquiry it is good information to have for those electing to work in the dark hours while sleeping in the light.
There are some things you can do, of course - taking 2,000-4,000iu's of vitamin D each day, eating organic deep green leafy vegetables, etcetera. However I don't personally believe these things will fully compensate for the night shift. The pervading behavior has far more impact than the countering of the things just mentioned.
I realize it's never easy to change one's working life - many of us believe it impossible. But in cases like this for those who want health, it is simply best to find another shift or other employement that supports rather than diminishes one's ability to live well.
