My Magazine Audition

Posted Feb 03 2012 9:12pm

Okay, lovelies! Today’s post is a bit different so I hope you will bear with me. I’ve been given the opportunity to write for some major health and fitness magazines and I couldn’t be more excited and honored! This is my magazine audition post.

“You’re going to die.”

These are the words my father said to me a little over two years ago. After four years of battling anorexia nervosa, there was not a thing in the world that could convince me to change my destructive habits. That is, until I heard those four piercing words. I’d put myself into a cage of self-mutilation and, that day, I decided it was time to set myself free.

Using my inner strength and positive mantras, I started fueling my body with plant-based foods and working out for strength instead of skinny.  The very lifestyle I used to destroy my body I now used to heal my body. I was finally comfortable being me.

So, what’s the point of this anecdote? How does this make me qualified to write for you?

Nutrition and writing are my life.

At just 22-years-old, I have had a wealth of experience and I have learned so much from studying nutrition and journalism.  The workload is no joke. My nutrition courses are extremely challenging; but they are also gratifying. I absolutely love the material, soak it up like a sponge and convey it well to others in my daily life. People are constantly asking me for nutritional advice, be it on this blog, through email, or at the gym!

While we’re on the subject of food, I feel as though I should also mention my undying love for coffee.

Coffee always wins.

Okay, back to the basics.

I have been writing and editing college newspapers for three years. After only two months as a college freshman, UMass Amherst’s The Daily Collegian added me to their roster as assistant editor for their Arts & Living section. I also wrote content on topics ranging from  body image  to  music . I am now a full-time staff writer for  The Gatepost , Framingham State University’s newspaper. In my spare time, I write for  Fitblogger  and  This Dish is Veg , open communities for people who simply love to write.

I’ve got the fit-spiration.

I eat to live and exercise to thrive. Aside from challenging others at  Mind Body Barre , I love challenging myself with intense workouts. Strong is sexy and I love to prove it! This October, I drove four hours to New York City for a 1 hour fitness bootcamp with Lacy Stone. I even won the push-up contest, completing two consecutive minutes of push-ups!

This girl is not afraid to get sweaty. My spunky, can-do attitude will inspire your readers to get their fitness on too. It’s all about spreading the fit-spiration!

I’m relatable and fun!

As soon as this community began growing and the emails started pouring in, I knew I’d found my niche. When  FitFluential  asked me to join their team as an ambassador, I really knew I’d found my niche. I have a knack for delivering intelligent and thoughtful conversation with a hint of sass. This keeps my readers engaged and keeps them returning. Why? We simply speak each other’s lingo.

I’m sincere, honest and real. Your readers can connect with me and I know I can deliver amazing content for you.

(There is a surprise at the end of this video, so watch it through the end!)

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes that I wrote. It’s the same quote I repeat to myself every day:

You’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think, and more beautiful than you can imagine.

Stay lovely,
Heather
