My healthy sweet treat: Elli Quark

Posted Jun 07 2014 9:00am
This post is sponsored by Elli Quark. All opinions are my own. I ate the entire case they sent in less than a week.

I consider myself extremely fortunate that part of my job entails trying out various gadgets and health foods. It’s pretty much one of the greatest job perks I’ve ever had (although when I was in my early 20′s I worked at a video rental store and free movies was a pretty sweet perk.)

Most of the time I like the products. Sometimes, I don’t care for them much and will usually tell the brand (constructive criticism FTW.)

Sometimes, I really, really fall in love with a product. This is one of those times.

A few weeks ago the lovely people at Elli reached out to me to see if I’d be interested in trying their new ‘yogurt.’ I put yogurt in quotes because technically it’s creamy German cheese and not yogurt, but the taste & texture is extremely similar. The first thing I asked for was a list of their ingredients and nutritional information. I don’t eat a lot of yogurt because most of what’s sold in the store has as much added sugar in it as a candy bar.

The sent me over the information, I liked what I saw, and a few days a case of delicious Elli Quark was at my doorstep.

First off the nutritional information is pretty spectacular. 80 calories, 14-17 grams of protein, and zero added sugar. Win-win-win. elli Secondly, and perhaps the most important, it tastes incredible. There are two flavors that particularly stood out as “omg these are so good I can’t wait to tell {insert best friends name here} about them.” The Red Velvet cake and Lemon were both ridiculous. I received two of each and went through them in 3 days.

The strawberry and pineapple were good, but it’s hard to compare to the red velvet cake. The plain was just that, plain. I’m going to try to think of some fun add in’s for the last one I have. The texture is much like Greek yogurt, and there is a tangy aftertaste to them (part of which makes Red Velvet such a perfect flavor to make!) A little birdie told me they will be rolling out new flavors soon so I can’t wait to try what they are coming up with!

For now you can find them at most Whole Foods and Fresh Market’s. I sadly live in a land devoid of Whole Foods so I swung by my local Fresh Market and found they carried my favorite flavors – and they are on sale!
2014-06-05 14.22.44 If you love things that taste good and are looking for an insanely good calorie-to-protein ratio then get thee to a Fresh Market asap. It looks like those sale prices are good until the 10th so go and buy every single Red Velvet they have in stock.

You’ll thank me later.

Greek yogurt, fan or no?

What are your favorite add-in’s for plain greek yogurt?
