My First (and last) Beam Green Meeting!

Posted Aug 21 2009 12:34pm
Last night, I had the opportunity to attend my first Beam GreenSocial Club meeting at Tavern on the Green in Central Park. I've been reading about these meetings for a few months now so when Dori gave me a guest pass, I was very excited to finally attend.

For those of you who are not familiar with Beam Green, it is a Green Social Club for men and woman of all ages created to share knowledge of living a green and healthy lifestyle. The meeting was held in a beautiful, bright room at Tavern on the Green. People were not exaggerating when they told me how fancy and elegant this place was!

I found Dori right away!

We arrived pretty early so we decided to spend some time taking pictures of the gorgeous scenery.

I was very excited when I saw an amazing selection of green juices from Liquiteria.

This was my first time trying green juice so I wanted to taste each one! I took Dori's recommendation and had a glass of the Grasshopper: apple, pear, pineapple, wheatgrass , and mint.

It was delicious!! It was very sweet and refreshing! I could drink it all day! Yum!

More bloggers showed up!

Me, Sarah, Vani, Olga, Diana, and Dori!

Our friend Rachel also came. I met both Dori and Rachel in Israel a few summers ago. Melissa and Gena were there as well!

There was an amazing assortment of healthy, vegetarian and raw foods!

My favorite tray...vegan cookies and macaroons from BabyCakes!

Along with a huge tray of brown rice avocado rolls from Whole Foods!

Veggies galore!
I gulped my first juice up very fast so I decided to try another flavor!

This time I got the Mr. Green:carrot, apple, beat, ginger, super Green Foods, and Liver Kidney Lymph Detox. I enjoyed this one too but not quite as much as the first since I could taste the carrots and beats. Very refreshing though!

My first plate:

The sushi was delicious. And yes, I forgot about my low carb rule last night since I wanted to get the most out of my experience!

A few minutes later, it was brought to my attention that there were raw dishes out from Three Wishes!

Raw Zucchini Lasagna!

Raw Zucchini Pasta!

I filled my plate with both along with raw sushi!

All 3 dishes were delicious! The zucchini pasta tasted just like real pasta! I am dying to buy a spiralizer now! I may have an Amazon gift card coming my way so that may be on my list!

There were a few different speakers during the course of the night. We listened to BeamGreen's founder, Mary Boehmer. Next, we listened to one of the founders of Stogo dairy-free ice cream, Gene Stone. Gene is a vegan and author of more than 30 books.

Stogo Ice Cream uses premium organic, dairy-free ingredients with no refined sugars, no animal products, no artificial flavors, and no preservatives. The ice cream is either soy-based, hemp-based, or coconut-based and sweetened with agave nectar. I plan to visit Stogo in the near future because they are some delicious sounding flavors!! Banana Foster, Oatmeal Raisin Cookie, Fudge Brownie, and Vanilla Goji Berry crunch just to name a few!

We were given the opportunity to try the coconut-based vanilla and chocolate ice cream!

I grabbed a double chocolate chip vegan cookie and fruit to eat with the ice cream!

I am not usually a fan of coconut but this ice cream was delicious! It was thick, creamy, and rich! I can't wait to go to Stogo now!

Next, Mary and her mom did a raffle. They gave aways about 15 or 20 wonderful prizes such as a wheat grass juicer, organic cleaning supplies, and raw food books!

I did not win anything but Dori won an awesome kitchen knife! Exciting!

Gena also gave away a free health consultation since she is Beam Green's Raw Foods Coach!!

Behind Gena was the next speaker, Gil Jacobs, a colon therapist and vegan. He discussed the importance of making healthy lifestyle changes to prevent disease and damage to the body. He emphasized that "cleanse is a verb, not a noun." He said people should choose a diet that suits them and makes them feel happy each day. A 2-day detox or cleanse that one is suffering through will not work unless they continue with this clean diet for the rest of their life. Gil was full of knowledge and enthusiasm and I would love to learn more from him in the future.

The final speaker was David, a Kabbalah expert.

He discussed the connection between practicing Kabbalah and being green. We left with our very own copies of Kabbalah on Green Conciousness and the Environment.

I had a wonderful time at the Beam Green meeting and enjoyed listening to all of the speakers, trying new delicious food, and chatting with fellow bloggers! I probably would have joined Beam Green but Mary announced at the end of the night that last night was the last meeting! Very disappointing but I wish her the best!

I made it home from the meeting around 11 PM. I was exhausted and probably should have went right to sleep but I was craving a snack after all that! I made a weird but delicious combination, freeze-dried veggies with peanut butter.

Of course I was craving chocolate after that so I went back in for sugar-free pudding with carobs!

Okay, now I really should have went to bed but there were cookies staring me in the face.

In my head I knew I already broke my low-carb rule for the day so I figured it did not matter anymore. Not a good way of thinking!! I was full and did not need more chocolate but I dug in anyway and then went to bed! Oh well, I am back on the wagon today. So far I had an omelet and raw almonds :)

I am considering going to Core Fusion tonight since I just bought 20 more classes!! Can we say addiction?? It is a very good addiction though! I got a great deal from RueLaLa so I do not feel bad about spending the money. I also got an amazing wedding gift for my sister so I am very excited right now!

Time for lunch! Bye!
