My experience with food combining

Home Healthy Eating My experience with food combining

I’ve made no secret of the fact that I’m a huge fan of Kimberly Snyder and her book The Beauty Detox Solution.

Since reading her book, I’ve adopted many of her principles into my everyday life, including the concept of food combining and eating light to heavy.

According to Kimberly, “eating light to heavy at each meal will prevent any backup in our system and will keep us from squandering our Beauty Energy” (source).

When I first read that fruits needed to be consumed on an empty stomach, I was ready to forget the whole thing.  Cereal without fruit?  I don’t think so!  Then I read that protein and carbs don’t combine well either.  No more egg sandwiches?  Boo.

However, I kept reading the book and learned more about how proper food combining can lead to optimal digestion and especially how eating fruit with other foods can cause a “traffic jam” in the body.

And I figured it was worth a shot.

I started by replacing my morning oatmeal or cereal with a bowl of fresh fruit followed by a green smoothie about 30 minutes later.  Believe it or not, I never missed (and still don’t) my previous breakfasts.

I have so much more energy in the morning now and no longer suffer from post-meal bloating.  Plus, I’m more…um…regular.

I honestly cannot imagine eating any other way, especially in the morning.

The good news is that it isn’t necessary to give up oatmeal or toast.  All you have to do is make sure that you consume those things after you’ve eaten fruit or had a green smoothie.

I truly cannot say enough about how much food combining has improved my digestion, and I’d like to hear your thoughts on the subject.

Personally, it works for me, but I know that it isn’t something that will work for everyone.  And of course, I’ve definitely experienced times (like when I’m a guest at someone’s home) when food combining just isn’t practical.

Has anyone tried it with any success?  Have you tried it and found that it didn’t work for you? All opinions are welcome!

Have a great day!

  2. I’m still reading that book right now! I’ve seen the whole ‘eat fruit alone’ thing many times before! I definitely think it’s worth a try, especially if you’ve had success with it. :)

  3. I’m so glad this works well for you! I have to combine protein and carbs to keep my blood sugar stable… otherwise I just don’t feel good. See you tonight?? :)
