My current thoughts on non-toxic beauty products

Home Beauty My current thoughts on non-toxic beauty products

At about 8 o’clock last night, I noticed that the flag was up on our mailbox meaning that our mail carrier brought more mail in addition to what he delivered earlier in the day.

Wearing my fuzzy slippers and pineapple printed pajamas (there’s a fun visual image for ya), I headed out to check the mailbox.

These are not my actual slippers, but they are pretty cute.

Well, there was a visitor on my front doorstep…a little gray dog wearing a cone around his neck.

He stared up at me with his cute scruffy face, and I did what any animal lover would do.

I let him enter my house.

Since the dog wasn’t wearing a collar, I scooped him up and decided to walk from door-to-door until I found his owners.

(Note to my dad:  The cone around his neck led me to believe that he had recently seen a vet, so I figured that it was safe to touch him.)

Luckily, my next-door neighbors told me that he lived in a house across the street, and I was able to return the dog to his family pretty quickly.

After the dog was successfully reunited with his parents, I finally checked my mailbox and was completely ecstatic when I saw my Birchbox sitting in there.

(Yes- this whole story has been my long-winded way of telling you that I received my September Birchbox…)

My box came with:

  • A sample of Bvlgari Mon Jasmin Noir perfume
  • Color Club nail polish in a really pretty dark blue color
  • Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm
  • LiQWd Professional Volumizing Catalyst and a sample of their shampoo & conditioner
  • A twistband custom lace hair tie

If you’ve followed me for awhile, you know that I am a big advocate of using non-toxic beauty products whenever possible, and you might be wondering why I’d be excited about trying a bunch of products that aren’t all-natural.

Well, here’s where I stand on all of that today…

I still believe that we should pay attention to the products that we put in and on our bodies.  I also think that it’s important to read labels and select non-toxic products as much as possible.

However, I don’t believe that we need to get completely crazy and abandon every product that we already own and love.

(I’ve been there, and it wasn’t much fun.)

I’ll admit it- I have a weakness for MAC cosmetics and Essie nail polishes in a major way.  I shop at Bath & Body Works (their seasonal products are amazing).  And I have yet to discover a non-toxic shampoo that I completely adore.

When it comes to most anything in life, I’m all about balance and moderation.

This means, I’ll be referring to a mixture of products from now on- just so long as I love them.  I’m still always on the hunt for great non-toxic brands and products though and hope to continue introducing these to you in the future.

Where do you stand on using non-toxic cosmetics and skincare?  Are the majority of your products natural, or do you use a variety?  I’m really curious to hear your thoughts!

  1. Have you tried eco emi or green grab bag. I try to go natural as much as possible. I stopped my birchbox because most things messed with my sensitive eyes.

  2. I don’t think we checked our mail yesterday, my Birchbox is probably sitting in there!

  3. Your birch box sounds amazing! I want to sign up so badly but I’m waiting until I’m employed ;) Then I can actually pay for it! You’re so smart to have a balanced view of non-toxic products. We can’t have everything non-toxic, but we can certainly make an effort to have a lot of them for our health!

  4. I guess my go to product is Aveeno since I have really sensisitve skin. I have to really baby step it when introducing a new product to my regime; one at a time or really can not determine what is causing a reaction if that happens. I had a hard time finding a sunscreen product for my face, since you pretty much wear sunscreen 360 days a year here with the desert and elevation. I am going to have to check out this birch box thing – thanks for sharing!
