If this past weekend is any indication of the Fall & Winter to come…bring it. Holy gorgeous Indian Summer, Batman! The weather was stunningly perfect for two (count ‘em TWO!) outdoor events.
The weather…oh the weather….how you’ve tripped up our plans so in the past. Thank you for cooperating this past weekend. Amen.
Being the recent convert to wine that I am, I practically leapt at the opportunity to attend Mpls. St. Paul’s Magazine Ultimate Wine & Dine event (held at the gorgeous new UM TCF Bank Stadium) featuring the first ever Street Eat Awards. In total were 12 food trucks (yeah for local food trucks !), 40 chefs, and 300 wines. As I facebook’d on our way to the event, “Heaven help me….”.
Knowing the food trucks were a popular draw, we decided to hit them first…you know…get a little base going in the belly. This ended up being a good call because some of the trucks ran out of samples.
I asked hubby to wipe my chin once I heard Gastro Truck had pork belly. With chin freshly wiped, we made that our first stop. And oh my stars….succulent pork fat at it’s finest.
From there it was the venerable Smack Shack for Lobster Rolls housed between buttery pillows of Texas Toast perfection.
I know. Please….wipe the drool from your chin as well. I do understand but it’s just not that pretty.
Chef Shack was handing out samples of their infamous Indian-spiced mini-donuts. I cannot tell a lie…I ate 3. Don’t you love their shirts? I wonder how I can get one…I showed my sanskrit tattoos to the owners once in hopes they’d recognize a kindred spirit and gift me one but alas, I’m on Plan B.
I was excited to finally try World Street Kitchen . I’ve heard so many good things but there’s only so much of me to go around! The Yum-Yum Rice Bowl was out-of-this-world fresh and tasty. I can see why this is a favorite of so many!
I could go on and on about all the amazing food we sampled (more in the photo below) but I need to get to the wine pictures!
But first…the pork belly from Gastro Truck that got my vote….
There were only a couple of micro-breweries on hand which was cool…we didn’t realize there would be any!
And wine. Lots and lots of wine. My palate was trashed but my spirits were soaring! Of course the Cristal certainly didn’t hurt.
I can’t even begin to count the number of wines we sipped and swilled and sipped some more. Again – I didn’t find any must tries (jotted down a few maybes if I see them in the store) but seriously…how could you when you’re palate is overwhelmed? It was just fun to partake in the food and drink and fabulous weather. And the opportunity to wear my boots /grin.
I’m actually not sure which food truck took home the honors but regardless, I call this day a Score! (Get it…goal posts?)
