We set the alarm clock to go off early on Sunday morning, to decide what we wanted to do for the day. After some discussion, we packed lunches, our bikes and other gear, researched a mountain biking trail in Southern Vermont we wanted to try, and were on our way.
We drove to Wilmington, Vermont, which is home to the ski resort Mount Snow , and is in between the towns of Bennington and Brattleboro.
The trail Steve located online and lines the Harriman Reservoir and the Green Mountains. [I ♥ Vermont. It’s so beautiful.]
The trail was labeled an easy mountain biking trail, which was perfect for a beginner like me.
Of course we forgot that Vermont’s weather is a week or two behind us, so the trails were still snowy and muddy.
I can be a pretty hesitant bicycler, cautious of the terrain and worried about falling off, but I had hoped that riding on a mountain biking trail like this would help me become more confident.
We rode about four miles one way, and along the way had some great dry patches which made for easy riding. The sky was getting darker and overcast, so we stopped for lunch.
We were both really hungry by then. I had a banana, matzah with cashew butter and apple butter, celery sticks, and chocolate coconut macaroons.
It was a great day – we saw some beautiful scenery, including snowy spots and boulders along the trail.
By the end of the trip, it started to rain, but it was at a good time. My legs were sore [I hadn’t been biking for more than 30 minutes or so in ages], and I was feeling much more confident about riding in the woods.
I’m hoping that we find more trails like this, and that we can venture out at least once a month. I love hiking too, but it felt great to use different muscles and to use my bike.
Yay spring!
Have you ever been mountain biking?
