Motivation, Ambition and Drive

Posted Oct 22 2008 6:25pm

I was very tempted off course today. The second day is not an easy one when going through detox. I've sort of abandoned the true 5DC in favor of a no dried fruit, no starch version of ETL. It does help me mentally though to think of it as detox phase though. I think 4 meals a day (or 3 meals and one snack depending on how you look at it) will be my plan for awhile-- I get tempted by junk when the toxic hunger hits in the afternoon. If I can at least eat something delicious but still ETL it helps-- hence the two servings of chocolate cherry ice cream! (Better than the cookie dough I was fantasizing about!)

So today:

1. smoothie: spinach, orange, DHA, 1 cup each of blueberries and strawberries, 1T flax
2. same salad as yesterday except only half a nectarine
3. chocolate cherry ice cream
4. 3 oz tofu, mixed stir fry veggies (Vegetable hodgepodge from trader joe's), 1/2 oz walnuts, 1/2 serving chocolate cherry ice cream

I also have been drinking yogi tea detox tea. I suppose Dr. F wouldn't approve but I think a little dandelion tea for my liver and kidney function and to get rid of some stored water would be good for me.

I didn't exercise today-- I was a little dizzy and tired today, but not nearly as bad as I thought I might be. I'll never forget when I first started ETL a couple years ago and the first couple days I felt like I had the flu! Hopefully tomorrow I can do a bit of something.

I was writing out all the reasons I am doing this-- weight loss alone isn't a sufficient motivator. I was thinking about all the scary family history I have:

-
Two grandfathers died of cancer in their 50s
-
One grandmother had bypass surgery
-
Other grandmother with debilitating arthritis
-
Mother with thyroid, arthritis, major inflammation issues and obesity
-
Father diagnosed with Type I/II diabetes at age 54
- Great grandmother had Alzheimer’s disease

That is a scary list! It's time for me to be consistent and dedicated. I know I can do this-- I just have to stay focused, motivated and not overly restrictive. I have a great deal of ambition for doing really great things in the health and fitness industry-- and I need to start acting like the example I'd like to be!
