Early Morning Boot Camp Class
Good morning and a very happy Friday before a holiday weekend to you!
My mom and I woke up bright and early this morning to catch an awesome outdoor boot camp class that she has has been attending every Friday for the last 5 weeks. It’s led by Sara , a personal trainer and wonderfully accomplished runner. This 5:45am class and Sara’s 8:20am class both meet Monday through Friday and most clients come attend each of the five weekly sessions. My mom bikes to work in addition to biking 30+ miles every Wednesday so she attends boot camp on Fridays only.
All you need to bring is a mat, 5-8 lb weights, water, and (if you sweat like me) a small towel.
I was super excited to attend because it’s been a while since I’ve worked out in group and had someone else tell me what to do. Sara’s workout did not disappoint! We met in a local school parking lot and started with ~7 minutes of abs exercises including sit-ups, flutter kicks, scissor kicks, and planks. It was really nice to get the abs exercises out of the way in the beginning!
Then we grabbed our weights and headed up a steep hill to larger parking lot. What followed were rounds of lunges (walking, elevated static, walking with back leg raise) alternated with running up and down the steep hill and sprint intervals. I felt good running but my quads were burning during those lunges! During the last few sets, I took a quick 2 second break between each group of ten lunges in order to maintain proper form.
I was wearing my watch but didn’t have a chance to glance at it and the hour flew by. I worked up an awesome sweat and I know that my quads and abs will be sore tomorrow!
Very Berry Cinnamon Vanilla Almond Hemp Cookie Dough Breakfast Cereal
Quite the tongue twister isn’t it! After such a great workout I was craving a cool, fruity, and satisfying breakfast. Plus I couldn’t resist the beautiful fresh local blueberries and blackberries in my mom’s fridge.
1 tbsp of delicious cinnamon vanilla almond butter thanks to Ashley
1/2 cup fresh blueberries
1/2 cup fresh blackberries
It definitely hit the spot!
Holiday Weekend Plans
It’s so nice to be in D.C. this weekend because there is so much going on! Tonight I’m having dinner with two wonderful friends, Emily and Carrie whom I have known preschool. Emmy made a reservation for us at Founding Farmer’s an awesome D.C. restaurant that prides itself in serving local produce and meat. I took one glance at the menu and knew that I am going to have a tough time deciding what to order because everything looks amazing!
Tomorrow morning I’ll pick Nick up from the airport and the three of us will drive down to Harrisonburg, Virginia for our extended family July 4th BBQ. It’s been three years since I last attended so I’m really looking forward to catching up with everyone and seeing the little ones that have recently joined the family!
Sunday we’ll skype with my brothers and on Monday we’ll be walking into downtown Bethesda to have lunch with friends. Yey for a full holiday weekend!
