Moose Mug. Free Yoga Class and the longest run of the year yet!

As you may know I am an ambassador for the Zooma Chicago half marathon  and it is right around the corner.  I am getting really excited about the race, it will be my first race in almost 2 years (wow, can't believe its been that long). The women in charge of Zooma have been really wonderful setting up group runs and meet ups and this week Zooma is hosting a free one hour vinyasa yoga class for all levels  in Chicago.  The class will be held Monday evening at 6:30pm at the park at Lakeshore East (411 E. Benton Place, Chicago, IL)  with a live DJ (how fun!).  The class will be a great event to meet other runners and some of the other ambassadors for the race will be there:-)

Sunday morning started off with a lovely 12 mile run.  Thank goodness for the cool off this weekend, it was a nice 74 degrees with minimal humidity, much better than the heat index of 100 we had been having this past week.  1 2 miles is the longest distance I have run in a little over a year.  My run training and cross-training has been really solid.  Cross-training helps to keep my muscles in balance and has really helped with my endurance this year.  I can't stress the importance of cross-training.  Taking the stress off of your legs a few days a week from running is so beneficial.  Running takes a huge toll on the body. Yoga, Pilates, strength training, swimming, etc.  keep you moving without the stress on the joints in the same manner that running does.   

The post-run plan consisted of stretching, walking Moose to keep the legs loose, a cool shower and lots of water and of course FOOD!

Tuesdsay: Teach Bootcamp
Wednesday: Speed workout
Thursday: Teach Bootcamp and Pilates
Friday: Hot Vinyasa Yoga
Saturday: OFF
Sunday: 14 mile run!

What are your favorite types of cross-training?

By the way my favorite running skirt is on sale at Lululemon.  I found mine in store but there are some available online .  $34 from $68!  I know have 3:-)
