Mobile Medical Applications Survey

Posted Oct 18 2011 12:00am

The latest  HIMSS Vantage Point survey is on the subject of mobile medical applications .  I find the listing of areas in which clinicians use apps  to be reaffirming of my recent comments on the best hospital apps in an article.

I am a bit surprised that 34% of respondents said there is too much regulation.  I'm not sure I agree with this statement, at least not yet.  This is such an early point in the evolution and we do need to exercise care and cautious application, especially when use of the apps effects diagnosis and treatment decisions.

I do believe the FDA and others are working to improve the approval processes.  So, the risk manager in me would say we have the appropriate level of regulation.
