Midgets: How they changed my eating habits (part 4)

Part 4 of this series is my favorite, because this is when the real wake up call was for me. Like Oprah would say this was my “Aha moment.”
It happened when Midget N. was 11 months old. She was mobile at this time and really interested in everything going around at her, including my food. Any time I ate something she would say, “Mmm.” Prompting me to give her some. Most of the time I would share, unless it was something that she couldn’t eat. Which was anything that wasn’t wholesome and nutritious. At this point I had not introduced any added sugar into her diet, nothing processed or anything I had not made myself. I was so proud knowing she was getting the very best and that I knew exactly what was going into her body.
So this particular day when she wanted some of my milk shake, and I told her no and continued eating it. She started crying and a whole wave of emotions came over me. I felt so bad, not because of the crying but because I was being a hypocrite to my Daughter. I was so ridiculous telling her that it was ok for me to put these things into my body on a regular basis, but it wasn’t ok for her.
I understood, how stupid it was for me to want the best for her but to not give second thought when it came to myself and my health. It was at this point I made a decision to not eat anything that I wasn’t comfortable feeding my Daughter. This was by far one of the best decisions I have made in my life.
It brought me back to my roots of wholesome, delicious, real food. It brought back my love and passion for cooking. It sparked a fire in me for nutrition and fitness. It made me realize that my Husband and I needed to nourishing our bodies properly just like we did our children.
It has been a year now since this change in our diets and we have both lost the weight we put on in that first year our our marriage. Our energy levels have increased immensely allowing us to keep up with our children and to develop a regular work out routine. This is a change that has now become a life style and one that I can thank my Midgets for. That’s the thing about having Children, they change you in ways you never even imagine.
