Yesterday had the best intentions really. Solomon’s mom and Carmen are in, and since we obviously weren’t running the Pittsburgh Half anymore, we thought it might be fun to spend the day in Cleveland. We were off to a late start, because of far too many games of Rummikub, but made it eventually. We headed straight to Melt Bar and Grilled to put our names down (boy, they always have a long wait…every time we try to go it never works out!) then were off to Main Street Cupcakes to pick up a few awesome cupcakes (we haven’t tried them all yet, so the review will come soon!). Since we had such a long wait, we thought it might be fun to go to West Side Market but it turns out it’s closed on Sundays! We didn’t have time for a museum or anything, so we headed back to Melt for a very early dinner.
Melt is a gourmet grilled cheese restaurant with a really funky vibe. It’s purely comfort food (at least grilled cheese is comfort food to me!) and awesome. After a fairly long wait, we were seated at a cute little corner booth and started staring at their enormous menu . All of their sandwiches come with fries and cole slaw, and we each decided to get a different one.
Marlene got the Tokyo Tuna Melt which had Asian marinated grilled yellow fin steak, ginger wasabi dressing, lettuce, tomato, and muenster cheese.
I’m really not supposed to eat raw tuna, but I figured a little bite wouldn’t kill me. This was divine. She ended up taking most of the bread off and eating it like a civilized person with a fork, which was a smart move, because half of it came home anyway! BEST.TUNA MELT.EVER.
Carmen got the Roasted Vegetable which had zucchini, eggplant, yellow squash, carrots, sun-dried tomato pesto, and muenster. I actually didn’t try it, but Solomon said it was his favorite.
I’m glad Carmen brought half home, because I hope that becomes my lunch today
I asked the waiter for his favorite vegetarian sandwich. I’m always big on asking waiters what they like best, because I figure they are the ones who probably eat the food most regularly. He recommended the Parmageddon which had 2 potato & cheese pierogi, fresh napa vodka kraut, grilled onions, and sharp cheddar.
The pierogi were HUGE! I loved this one. For some odd reason I’ve been craving sauerkraut lately, so this totally hit the spot. Cheesy, gooey, comforting…heavenly! I also took half home!
Finally, Solomon got the special which was the Prime Time Prime Rib Melt and had slow roasted tender prime rib, roasted garlic smoked gouda mashed red skin potatoes, provolone, zippy horseradish sauce and a hot, deliciously rich au jus for dipping.
It was a little peppery for his liking, but everyone else thought it was great.

The fries were out of the world amazing. Crispy outside, soft inside and packed with flavor. This is exactly how I LOVE fries. The bread each sandwich came on was great too. Buttery, kind of like Texas Toast. I might have eaten the piece Marlene discarded
I really loved Melt and can’t wait to go back. I’m also slightly embarrassed to admit that the only reason I didn’t eat my whole sandwich was because I didn’t want to seem piggy in front of everyone else who couldn’t finish theirs. But to be fair, they all had a much bigger breakfast than I did!
I’m so glad I decided to give Cleveland the benefit of the doubt!
