Since my father have a heart health problem, it's always been part of my internet journey to find some informations about new technology that wil help his heart problem. Today I learned something about Defibrillation Leads.
Defibrillators is implanted near the shoulder connecting to the heart and used to regulate a persons heartbeat, through one or more leads. This device tells some abnormal rhythm of the heart and deliver an electronic shock to reset the heart to a normal beat. This system can actually deliver unnecessary shock to the heart of the person who have it or it may not operate at all when needed, which can cause death.
Medtronic Inc. decided to remove their Sprint Fidelis Defibrillator Leads from the market after they heard about five patient died from it. They have estimated, that about 4,000 to 5,000 patients that are using this device will experience a lead fracture within 30 months of implantation. Medtronic has been requesting doctors to stop implanting the device and to return all unused and Defective Defibrillator Leads to Medtronic. However, they will not pay for procedures in taking out the device.
