For those of you who don’t know me, I am Jennifer from ShesAFitChick.com where I blog about health, fitness, food, and life! I am a 26-year old personal trainer living in CT who is absolutely addicted to the internet. There, I said it. I should be going to meetings.
Today I wanted to share some of my best tips for making time to work out. We are hard working women; we are intelligent women; we are multitasking women; we are powerful women; and on top of all of that we are sisters, mothers, friends, aunts, coworkers, neighbors, girlfriends, and wives. Geez, put all of that on your business card. We are so set on being there for everyone else that so often we put our own needs on the back burner.
Working out builds confidence, helps prevent sickness, and pumps you full of endorphins leaving you feeling great; you really don’t have time not to work out! We get one life to live, no do-overs, so lets spend it feeling our absolute best so we can feel great on every level while we help others.
Aside from just squeezing it in before or after work (before work is my favorite), here are a few other ways to fit a workout into your schedule.
I created this fun, effective workout called the “200 Tone-up” that will get your heart rate up without leaving you too sweaty or taking up more than 15 minutes of your time. If your schedule is too busy to devote a block of time to your workouts, try sneaking this in whenever you can. I often tell people aim for once a day, and then after a week try to bump it to twice a day, etc. The more times you can get it in the better.
Another great tip is to get in a workout during commercial breaks of your favorite show! My favorite game is to take a deck of cards and as soon as I hit commercials I get on the floor and pull a card; 5? That means I need to do 5 crunches (or push-ups, sit ups, etc). I keep pulling cards and doing that move until the show resumes. Next break, I pick a different exercise!
If you get a 30 minutes or more for a lunch break, consider using some of that time to go for a walk, jog, or quick gym session. Simply pack some dry shampoo to apply to your hair, and hop in the gym shower for a quick body rinse off! Sans gym? Dry shampoo and deodorant. I’m not above it.
Another great option is to actually get a workout in at your desk! My favorite? Triceps dips off of my desk or chair. Check out the site below for a few great desk workouts from around the web:
