Loving H.I.I.T. Workouts!

Posted May 29 2012 6:25am

Hello and Happy Tuesday! Everyone ready to go back to work today? It has been a fabulous long weekend, but time to get back at it. Yesterday we had a cookout at my friend A’s house. Hot dogs, baked beans, strawberries, and much more. Check out my plates:

Overall a fabulous 3 day weekend! Fun and rest along with a couple of great workouts! Let’s talk workouts now.

I knew I needed to get a workout in yesterday (after very few workouts last week), but I didn’t want to take too long. Three day weekends and time off has become rare for me, so I really wanted to enjoy and relax.

Perfect workout when you are short on time? H.I.I.T. workouts . Seriously. Twenty minutes on the elliptical and I was dripping sweat. This is what I did:

4:30 warmup
0:30 high intensity (will do this 11 times)
0:30 recovery (will do this 10 time)
5:00 cool-down

For high intensity I alternated increasing the resistance or the incline of the elliptical. I tried to keep my speed between 2.5 and 3 miles per hour during the workout time and between 2 and 2.5 miles per hour during the warmup and cool-down. My favorite app for creating interval workouts is Seconds Pro . I think the price tag ($2.99) is a little much, but it is a powerful (and simple) app that works great on the iPhone.

I did another 20 minute H.I.I.T. workout this morning. Love that each workout can be different based on time, speed, incline, and resistance! You can do H.I.I.T. workouts on an elliptical, on a bike, running, walking, etc. You can do 60 seconds high intensity and 30 seconds recovery. So many options to make the workouts different.

Why H.I.I.T.

I may experiment with the H.I.I.T. workouts this week along with concentrating on my arm workouts!

Did you have a great 3-day weekend? Have you ever done a H.I.I.T. workout? What did you think?

Enjoy your Tuesday!
