Lots of Friday Announcements!

Posted Apr 01 2011 1:25pm
Happy April! I am not a huge prankster so today isn’t any sort of event for me. I just can’t believe it’s April! Our weather is looking up (60’s for the next week or so, with some rain) and I can’t wait to get outside!

I hope you enjoyed the guest post yesterday from Lauren . She is my go-to friend for advice on plastics, recycling, and how to buy fish. She rocks!

Yesterday we went to the Opening Day Cardinals game. It was nuts but so much fun. I’ll recap it this weekend (haven’t even had time to pull the photos off my camera yet!) but here’s a sneak peak from my phone:

The weather was phenomenal until the 8th inning or so, when it got really cold. Then the game just kept going...and going...until the 11th inning when we lost :( Oh well, fun photos are coming this weekend!

Today is my last day at my old job! We’re going out after work for drinks (this place has tons of unique beers on tap!) so it will be a nice ending with my awesome coworkers.

A few announcements:

1) Remember when I posted about Blogging for a Change , a fundraiser in the blog world set to help Japan? Well, they’re live! Check out their site , add them on twitter , and like them on facebook !

2) If you’re local to St. Louis, check out this awesome food blogger bake sale on May 14th. Sign up to bake, eat, or buy! This is a national event, so check out this link for the bake sale local to you!

3) As a part of Slow Food St. Louis , I’ve set up our first tasting for 2011! We are partnering Kakao Chocolates and Harsha Wines to do a wine and chocolate pairing and tasting on April 14th! The cost is $25/person and includes 5-6 pairs and a discount on any chocolate purchased in store that night. This will be held at Kakao’s new space on Manchester and seating is very limited. Any locals interested? Shoot me a comment or email and I’ll sign you up!

4) April is Autism Awareness Month! The numbers are now 1 in 70 people – this is serious business. Head on over to Light It Up Blue to spread awareness and show your support.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with some amazing children diagnosed with ASD over the years, through my various roles with Macomb Intermediate School District, my school year spent in the Waterford School District, and my time spent with the Early Intervention Center . I am thrilled to be starting my newest role as Autism Training Specialist on Monday, right in the beginning of Autism Awareness Month! Fate?

5) Just a short note about Disqus. I’ve noticed that a lot of regular commenters aren’t linking to their blogs when they leave a comment. When you go to comment, there is an option in fairly small print that says “Link to my website” – if you click this, you can then link your name to your blog! You should all do this, so that if someone likes your comment, they can then check out your blog!

I’ve been replying to all comments, so be sure to “subscribe to comments” in order to receive my reply! You will then also receive other comments on that blog entry.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. If you have any questions about the above announcements, let me know!

Question: Do you like baseball? What's your favorite sport or sport-related activity?

(I used to hate it! Now, it makes me think of summer, a cold beer, the warm sun, and hot dogs. It’s an integral part of my summers now!)
