Loss Of Hair In Men - The Common Disorders

Posted Mar 25 2009 3:19pm

Androgenic alopecia is the scientific name for a plight that has haunted men all over the world. This is the dreaded and most common form of hair loss experienced by men. The hair loss is slow and gradual, it is becoming thinner and thinner progressively until it completely disappears. It is natural for men who have hair loss problems to lose their hair slowly over time, usually in a number of years. The hair loss occurs in a generally well defined “M” shape, which is why it is also sometimes called pattern baldness. Now you know what androgenic alopecia is, let’s move on to the causes.

It is not surprising that there are many different cause of male hair loss. But according to some recent researches, male hair loss is primarily caused by the androgenic hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This hormone is also responsible for the good and normal development of male secondary sexual characteristics. Well ain’t that swell, the very same thing that makes us men manly, is also the culprit behind our lack of hair syndrome. As the level of DHT in the scalp increases, the hair shaft decreases its width. The hair follicles also shrink at the same time. Since the hair shaft width determines the general width of the rest of your hair, as it’s size decreases the hair becomes thinner and thinner and eventually the hair shaft becomes too small for any hair to grow at all. This is also known as follicular miniturization, cause the hair follicles are shrinking. Seems like god “designed” us men to be bold as we become more “manly”. One way of solving this is to learn how to make hair grow faster. It is only sensible that if you can learn making hair grow faster than losing it, the net result is that you will have positive hair growth.

The logical solution to this problem would be to lower the level of DHT in our system. In theory this should work because DHT is the hormone that’s causing men to lose hair after all. There are prescription drugs to achieve this very goal of reducing DHT levels. The most common brand name of this kind of drug is Propecia (Finasteride). This drug however have a nasty side effect for all men who wishes to keep their manhood. One of which is called gynecomastia, a very undesirable event in which the breast grows larger and resembling similarly to that of women. The other nasty side effect is erectile dysfunction. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it is the inability to achieve erection of the penis. This mean loss of passion in the bedroom. No man in his right mind would have that. I would rather have no hair than have no sex at all. And so because of the above two side effects, Propecia (Finasteride) is not universally accepted as a sensible solution to hair loss.

Using natural treatment would be a better solution to the problem of baldness. These prevent DHT from binding to hair and thus blocking it completely. In a sense they function in the same manner as prescription drugs. But they do not have the side effects of those drugs since they only contain natural ingredients. These qualities of natural hair loss treatments are becoming a very attractive alternative to prescription drugs.
