Hello, Fall. It is so nice of you to join us so quickly. I must say I am not fully prepared for you yet – but I am welcoming you with open arms.
Why am I not ready for you? Well – basically my RUNS are not ready for you yet. Since I really started running last April (and was not yet a morning runner)… I am not accustomed to 7:00am runs with sub 50* tempertures. READ: I am NOT complaining. I just need to better prepare.
I need to get myself some gloves. My.hands.were.freezing. for ALL 11 miles. I also need to get myself some chap stick. Because I was running at LIGHTNING FAST speed, the chilly winds did a number on my lips and it had to fight the urge not to lick them the entire time I was running. I also need to get someone to follow me around while I run so I can shed clothes.. but not lose them forever. My t-shirt was asking for some sleeves during the first few miles, but I could not give it any. (Hi Justin… can you follow me for 12 miles next weekend… THANKS!)

I spy goosebumps on my arm.
So… yes. I ran 11 miles. A fantastic 11 miles. BUT .. it was not the 11 miles I thought I would be running.

See, I ran 11 miles. I am holding up two 1′s … which make 11, not 2.
Last night, I decided to map out a new route. For my 8 and 10 mile runs, I did similar loops (just added a few more side streets on the 10 miler…) and I wanted changed.
Former route.. you are boring. I’ve done you so many times. AND there are parts of you that are under construction.. so you are also scary..
So – Map My Run and I got together for a late night date and planned a new run. MMR told me my run would be relatively flat.. with a few slight inclines. MAP MY RUN LIED!
Does that LOOK like a flat run to YOU!? Um. NO. Like seriously.. mile 3.75 – 6.00 were pretty much all uphill. I had planned to do a loop.. but after I kicked those hills butts… I felt like I deserved to go down them too.. so I did an out and back for that portion of my run.
My fight with MMR was short lived.. because I freaking felt AMAZING while I was running. I knew I was climbing.. but I didn’t realize how much I had climbed until I was on my way down. I clearly had a renewal in energy and confidence.. reflected in the pretty large change in pace between the first and second half of my run:
I changed from near 9 minute miles to 8:30 miles. I could not be happier with this run.. especially after last weeks fail . My average pace was 8:40/mi .. which is extremely consistent (SAME pace for both my 8, 9, & 10 mi run!) A perfect way to spend 95 minutes of my morning!
One more thing I MUST share about cooler weather running… when your body is cold from running in the cold. ICE.BATHS.SUCK!

I have since warmed up and regained feeling in my body. Which is good. Because I need to feel my body while I am trying on WEDDING DRESSES this afternoon!!

Any tips for running outdoors in the chillier weather? Do you wear gloves? What kind?
If you’ve bought a wedding dress before.. did you get THAT feeling…?
