Let's Talk About That Sexy Ass Brain of Yours

Posted Dec 12 2010 6:51am
Get That Cookie Out of Your Head:

Repeat After me "I'm a sexy hot beast..."

Today's blog is a little bit different than most of my blogs because although I am a firm believer in the non-gimmicky truth that you are fat because you eat too much and move too little... however, there are other things to consider when addressing the issue of a fat ass. Or stomach for that matter.

And no this is not a blog about dis-functional metabolic rates, or thyroid conditions. We can have those chats later.

This is a wee chat about the biggest weapon or the weakest link in your health arsenal - YOUR MIND.

I hate to go all Buddha on your ass but the truth of the matter is that what you think becomes your reality.

I regret to state the obvious but if you treat yourself as a human garbage can - um I think you might not really like yourself all that much.

Now what that really means is that if you are stuffing platters of cookies and bowls of chips into your mouth or you refuse to get up of the sofa because you believe it is your right and destiny to watch four continuous hours of TV every night - than the first thing I would ask you as a nutritionist is let's talk about how much you like yourself.

Yep that's right because it might have been a crappy mother, a mean dad, a job that sucks the joy out of your life, a husband/wife that you're tolerating or a string of losses, the bottom line is that if you are not treating yourself as worthy of good healthy food and the gift of daily healthy movement ( bowel and otherwise) - YOU MIGHT NOT LIKE YOURSELF AS MUCH AS YOU THINK.

If you think you're fantastically hot and full of hot life potential - then usually you want to treat  yourself well. I don't mean shopping trips to Bergdorf's. I mean treat yourself with respect.

Sleep enough, eat food that is full of life and nutrients, and make yourself sweat -because you, to quote a hair commercial - are worth it.

THE SEXY MIND TEST:

The sexy mind test is simple.

1. Do you feel sexy?
2. Do you like to be touched?
3. Do you find fun in everyday life?

Answered no to most of these? You need to improve not only your nutrition but your attitude.

If you don't feel sexy that is a huge indicator that you're not as healthy as you should be. Healthy mammals like to get down - so if you don't want to get down - it's time to get up, off the sofa. Our feeling sexy quotient is directly tied to how much we like ourselves and how comfortable we are in our skin.

I know it sounds like psycho babble bullsh*t, but it isn't. If you like yourself and feel sexy you want to treat yourself well, you like how good food makes you feel. Bad food (alcohol, sugar, processed carbs) is like a numbing anesthetic that makes the pain go away for a bit but it always comes back if you don't remove the cause of the pain.

So how do you like yourself more?

Accomplish something.

We're pretty smart mammals so we can't trick ourselves into liking ourselves if we don't really do anything about it. Reading a self help book on how to like yourself and doing i like myself mantras aren't worth the paper they are printed on.

  • Do a walk or a run. You'll feel like you accomplished something.
  • Cook a super healthy meal for your spouse, friend or kids and eat it too. You did something nice - realize your can make an impact in your life and others.
  • Win- winning is great for your confidence and self liking - join a sport and kick some ass.
  • Bring in sales numbers that rock the company, close a deal.
  • Kiss your significant other good bye in the morning with tongue.

Live like you mean it.

So this week when you reach for that double triple chocolate latte with a side biscotti - ask yourself how much love is in a 400 calorie drink? All the love you need is in an apple, or a salad, or a sweet potato with 4 oz of organic chicken, or better yet in yourself.

Happy Holidays and stay away from cheese platters - nothing good every came from  eating too much from a cheese platter.

In health,

Amanda
