Lesson of Today

Posted Feb 07 2012 5:09pm

Something you should know about me: I never leave the house hungry. Or, if I know I’ll be out for a while running errands, snacks are by my side <—this statement will tie in later.

This morning I woke up starving. Probably because last night, when I usually have an evening snack right before bed, I was so exhausted that I didn’t even want to go downstairs and fix something up for myself. For me to not get food is unheard of, but thats how tired I was.
So I went to sleep instead.
I woke up  and immediately fixed myself a massive omelette topped with…. eggs. What, you’ve never done that?

^ photo take in June. Same idea, except without the extra eggs I had this morning

- 1 cup liquid egg whites

- topped with spinach, salt and garlic powder

- 1 TBS nutritional yeast

- 1/2 cup whipped cottage cheese folded in to melt

-  and 2 whole eggs, scrambled over easy (not pictured) that I put on top of the omelette

-organic ketchup + scallion

I love over easy eggs and I love omelettes, but hate “loosing” the yolk in the omelette. Problem solved.

Talk about a seriously filling breakfast. After I was able to think clearly, I did some house work and did something I haven’t done in three years….

I went to the GYM

If you’ve new to my blog, then you should know that I work out at home and have not stepped foot in a gym or been a member in almost three years, and its been working out (pun intended) for me just fine! I love doing everything in my own house. It saves me money on a membership, extra gas and 40 minutes of travel time, etc etc.

However, there are some things that I really miss about the gym. Like the leg and cable machines. I wanted to get my fix, so today’s workout was inspired by an attitude of “I’m just going to go use all the machines that I miss most and absolutely kill it”. Lift heavy I did! And torched a ton of calories just by lifting alone.

8. Heavy Wide Stance Deep Squats (at the squat rack) 4×10

9. Hanging Straight Leg Raises-> hang by your hands, and bring your toes ALL THE WAY to your hands at the bar to touch. crikey. 4×12

Streeeetch

Welp. That was fun. I got my fix of equipment that I haven’t used in forever, but I’ve been modifying at home just fine. It was $15 dollars well spent though!
I’ll definitely still be sticking to my home workouts. Things I Don’t Miss about the gym:

- creepers staring

-waiting for equipment

- the drive there  and time out of the day (yes, 40 minutes is a lot! and gas is expensive, I’m always traveling and fill up 2x a week!)

-the wait to get home to eat and shower

So I left the gym and made a “quick stop” at the bank. I almost didn’t go because I was getting pretty hungry and had nothing with me…which I should have brought a shake or something.

Then the bank took longer than expected (what can I say, they had a giveaway for a free ipad…) and it was out of the way so made for longer driving.

Then I was leaving the bank in a rush because my head was pounding at that point and I could feel my sugar start dropping and I could feel my body eating away at the muscle I just tried putting on. And I was cursing myself for not bringing something since I know better. And do I really NEED an ipad? NO

And while I’m cursing myself and backing out of my spot, telling myself that there are starving children all over the world and I need to just shut up and suck it up because I’ll survive, I bumped another car in the lot. gsdhgjkdfjghkjdghklcjg.

An hour later, after the whole police report/apologizing scene [tiny fender bender and everyone was fine. except for me because hello! sugar dropping!] I was home.

And I drowned my sorrows in the biggest shake of my entire life. To give you an idea of how hungry I was and the size, here’s a visual

an entire vita-mix container full. plus greek yogurt about 15 minutes later.

My headache was gone, and I felt normal again.

Lesson of the day. Always bring that emergency snack to avoid unnecessary accidents.

:)
