Last Minute Race Prep

Posted Feb 12 2012 12:40am
9:26 pm.  I should really be in bed.  But, I'm one of those people who can't go to bed really early.  9:30/10:00 kind of is an early night for me.  :o)  And besides, I'm just finishing up a few last minute things so that I have little to do in the morning.  Here's my last minute prep
Clothes:  I have my main outfit as well as backups and last minute alternates all packed and ready.  A few things are in the dryer, but I have a big note out to remind me to grab them.

Garmin:  Good and charged!

Race bib:  With the rest of my stuff.  I like to pin it on at the last minute, just in case I've changed my shirt a few times...

Snacks/Nutrition/Water:  Breakfast is planned, water and en route car snacks are all packed and my beans and gummies are ready to go.  Fuel belt is out and bottles are waiting on the counter to be filled.

Music:  Judge me if you want, but hey, I like running to music.  The playlist is all synced and the iPod is grabbing a bit of last minute charge over night.

Compression socks:  Packed and ready to go.  I'm curious if they're going to make any difference or not.  Regardless, they're in my bag and ready to go for after the race!

Camera:  Battery charging.  What's a race day without a few pics?

Paceband:  Sometimes I use one, sometimes I don't.  I'm not going to cling to it, but I'll pin it inside the hem of my shirt so I can check and see where I'm at.  A brand new box of Glad Press n' Seal will make sure it stays nice and waterproof, the weather is supposed to be rainy.  Boo.

Goals:  This is a tough one.  I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a goal in mind.  But, I'm being totally realistic and I know that it's going to be tough for me tomorrow and I might not get anywhere close to that goal.  It's all going to depend on how I'm feeling in the morning, hopefully I have a good day and can have a good race.  I won't be devastated if I don't hit my goal, but I'll be pretty darn thrilled if I do reach it.

I'm feeling pretty nervous but excited at the same time.  I know I can do it - even the last person across still gets to say they did it, right?  I kinda think that the runners tomorrow are going to be pretty fast - they all looked so hardcore at the package pickup today.  Ha ha.  I have a feeling I might be racing the course sweeper to the finish line!

Oh well.  With all of that said, I think I'm going to pack it in and head up to bed.  I've done everything I can.  All that's left is to have a good sleep and see what happens!
