Kensington Market & My Wine of the Week

Posted Aug 17 2012 12:00am
Yesterday I spent the day in Toronto with my mom in Kensington Market. If you don't know T.O. well then you may not have heard of Kensington Market. It is one of my favourite areas of Toronto! It is one of Toronto's most distinctive multicultural areas. I have read that it is the most photographed areas of the city. It is an eclectic little group of shops and stores, some of which include an outdoor market. If you are ever in the city definitely check it out if you haven't already, I love walking around there and checking out the different shops, they have tons of vintage stores when you can find some pretty neat little gems.

We also came across this "cute" little cafe (see above).... don't worry I didn't take my mom in there! LOL But I did take her to an amazing vegetarian restaurant called Fresh . We both got the grilled veggie burrito! It had grilled red pepper, alfalfa sprouts, fresh greens, red onion, sweet potato, tomato and cucumber! Goat cheese was optional, so we added it of course and it came with a side of kale slaw! Freakin' AMAZING! You have to eat here if you are ever in Toronto. It was a great day of mother/daughter bonding, and as an added bonus we ended up walking 5km through the streets of Toronto, so we were able to get some exercise in while enjoying all of the sights!

This week I also tried a new wine (of course) it was a red wine, which I never used to drink much but have taken a likely to it recently. I found this little gem on sale at my local LCBO so I thought I would give it a try, plus Danny loves red wine so I knew I couldn't go wrong buying it. It is a 2010 Zweigelt-Merlot from the Niagara Peninsula called Canadian Red. It is from Konzelmann Estate Winery. The patriot in me couldn't resist the moose on the front lol. It is a vintage wine with hints of peppered spices and sweet cherry fruit. The label suggests that you eat it with "lean game meat or goat cheese and red sauce pasta dishes....they had me at goat cheese. This wine retails for about $13, but is currently on sale for $10.50, so definitely worth trying out!
