July Foodie Pen Pal Reveal

Posted Jul 31 2012 9:30am

I have been anticipating writing this post for weeks and it is finally here! Yippee!!!

I don’t know if you have heard of the Foodie Pen Pal program, hosted by Lindsay at The Lean Green Bean but basically, instead of writing letters to a pen pal, you exchange a box of food goodies instead. When I heard about it, I knew it was something that I HAD to participate in!!

The Lean Green Bean

While I was more than excited from the get go, my husband was a bit leery of the idea. He saw how much energy and thought I was putting into the box of goodies that I was preparing for my pen pal and figured I would probably get stuck with a box of lame-o stuff that I would want to trash. I am happy to report that it was 100% NOT the case :-)

Not only did my pen pal, Jean Edwards send me a package filled with divine goodies but she also included some treats for my kids which I thought was beyond precious!!! Thank you Jean, they LOVED the gummies and the chocolates!!

Jean lives in Vermont and many of the items had a Vermont theme to them, which was so neat. Take a look!!

Just to break it down, here is a list of the items I received,

  • Vermont Pure Maple Syrup, Fancy Grade
  • Box of Vermont Chocolates
  • 2 small Vermont Jams
  • Mothers Caramel rice cakes
  • 2 Kashi snack bars
  • Chocolate Coconut Lara Bar
  • Annie’s Gummies for my kids
  • Chocolate truffles for my kids

All of this was sent with a thoughtful hand written note!!

While everything was delicious, the syrup is hands down the best of the best that I received!! Holy crap, I don’t know what I will do when I run out of this stuff because regular syrup just isn’t going to come close to tasting like this. BEST. SYRUP.EVER!!!!!

Coming in a close second were the box of chocolates. They were so tasty and had cute little designs on them. How I managed to only eat one per day, is beyond me!

So cute, right!!

Once again, I just have to say thank you to Jean Edwards for making my first month as a Foodie Pen Pal such a wonderful experience. Jean, if you are participating next month, I am certainly jealous of whoever is lucky enough to be paired up with you :-) .

I am already signed up to do this again in August(can’t wait!!!) and if you are curious to learn more about it(do it, do it, do it!!!) here are some additional details. Foodie Pen Pals is open to bloggers AND blog readers!!

(Taken from The Lean Green Bean website)

-On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treatsThe spending limit is $15The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.

Have you participated in the Foodie Pen Pal program before?

Have you ever had a regular pen pal with whom you exchanged letters regularly?

When I was in elementary school, I had a pen pal from England named Claire. I lost contact after a couple years but often think how interesting it would have been if we had kept in touch longer.
