Jelly Belly Sport Beans review and *giveaway*

Posted Nov 19 2012 9:46am

This review has been a long time coming. I received Jelly Belly Sport Beans samples the other day and have been meaning to post a review for a while now. Anyway, here it finally is!  Let me just start by saying I’m a fan. IMG_9011

Sport Beans are a new sports product created by the makers of the famous Jelly Belly jelly beans. These jelly beans are specially formulated for fueling the body before, during and after exercise.

I’ve tried a few fueling and energizing products, namely Clif Shot Bloks, sharkies , powerbar energy bites, and a hammer gel once way back when. I’ve been pretty much a Clif Shot Blok snob and didn’t want to try anything else since I thought I was satisfied with that product. But, I may be changing things up a bit now that I’ve tried these Sports Beans.

The main reason I like these is because it’s pretty much like eating candy. That’s right up my alley! I like how they are bite size and easy to eat while running. The flavors are awesome & vibrant…if flavors can be vibrant. I don’t eat a packet before my workouts, like it says on the package (I eat normal food). Instead I like to use these DURING my long runs. I always think a lot of my “hunger” is just mental, but that extra sugar boost from these Sports Beans is AMAZING when I’m getting tired.

If I could change anything (aka, my cons) it would be the packet size and/or price. I, of course, always want to get more for my money and these bags are a handful of beans for basically a buck. I guess it’s not terrible, especially compared to other brands and their products.

Jelly Belly makes these sports beans to be the perfect blend of carbohydrates and electrolytes (very important when exercising for longer than 60 minutes). No high fructose corn syrup, but rather there is cane juice and tapioca syrup. The electrolytes are 2:1 sodium and potassium, along with extra B vitamins for energy, and some vitamin C.

Aside from these 5 types that they sent me (fruit punch, orange, lemon lime, berry) they also have an ‘Extreme’ line, which are caffeinated (50 mg/packet) and are different flavors – watermelon and cherry. (I haven’t tried these) .

So, I’ll say it again. I’m a fan of these Sport Beans. I particularly like the berry and fruit punch flavors, but all of them are great. One of these days I’ll be daring and try the caffeinated kinds (I hardly EVER have caffeine).

And this so called ‘giveaway’ isn’t much, but here you go... IMG_9015

Jelly Belly couldn’t sponsor a giveaway this time, but I thought, if one of you wants to try these, I’ll giveaway the multi pack they sent with the rest of the samples. I would LOVE to keep it for myself, so if no one wants it GREAT! But if anyone does want to try these Jelly Belly Sport Beans leave me a message and let me know that you do. If there’s only one of you ;), they’re yours. But if there is more than one of you, I’ll pick a winner on Saturday (24th).

By the way, you’ll automatically get an extra entry if you run the Thanksgiving virtual 5K

*I was given this product free of charge. The thoughts and opinions are my own.

**I found a 24 packf Fruit Punch Sport Beans on Amazon for $18. That’s $.75 each (rather than $1+).
