It's still time for sun safety. Even in winter.

Posted Jan 15 2009 7:49pm
It does seem weird to think about sun protection in the dead of winter, doesn't it? But the problem is, we are still at risk for skin damage during those cold and blustery months. Particularly because a great deal of UV gets through those clouds and MOST particularly because people don't think to protect themselves when it's not hot and sweltering outside.

So, as you head outdoors this winter, whether it's to ski, to hike, or even just to take a walk around the park - remember the basics of sun safety:

* Make shade part of your sun safety routine.
* Schedule outdoor events before and after the high UV times (10am-4pm).
* Arm yourself with protective clothing, hats and sunglasses.
* Wear sunscreen and lip balm on all exposed skin.

The good news is this! Covering up during the winter isn't as hard as in the summer. So take just a couple extra steps to protect your skin while the cold wind blows.
