It Has… And I Wasn’t

Posted May 06 2012 8:41pm

My laptop has been infected  by a nasty virus and NO it wasn’t because of porn.

So what is the first thing people tell you when you tell them that your computer got a virus? Yeah, it usually goes like: “too much porn uh?” And I am probably one of those.  It’s funny but not so fun when it actually happens. After going through the experience myself, I think my first response will go more like: ”What about your data? Can you recover? Did you backup?”

That little piece of electronic holds pieces of my life and you can imagine my anguish at the thought that it all could be gone.  After turning on to a blank everything and 1000 error messages I took it and ran to the ER Best Buy.  Looks like the Geek Squad will be able to recover my data. The tech did a search to see if it has been wiped out and by the amount of GBs he saw still on the disk.  He also said I did good bringing it in right away because some viruses will slowly destroy the data and the disk.

No I didn’t have anti-virus because I slacked on renewing it after it expired and no I had not backed up my computer in like a year.  Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, you don’t have to say it.  But is one of those things we think it happens to others but not to us.  So if you haven’t, go get an antivirus and backup your stuff.

Given this minor setback, things might just be running a little behind around here and now you know why.
