Hello folks! I hope everyone is enjoying their Superbowl Sunday! I had a very (non-football filled) Sunday myself! I FINALLY completed an indoor triathlon today! AND I navigated New York public transit all by myself, without getting lost, pretty impressive if I do say so myself!
Anyways…back to the beginning.
I woke up early to catch the train to NYC. I was able to fit all of my triathlon/showering/changing gear into one bag, thanks to my new triathlon bag! (and thanks Mom for giving it to me!!)

It is the
Yankz! T2 Triathlon bag , which I found out about via
Cycle and Style (run by some awesome Utah ladies- check it out ASAP!). I absolutely love it! Unfortunately I’ve been out of the blogging groove lately (hence the lack of recent posts!) and was lacking on my picture taking today. So…more details to come about all the incredible nooks and crannies of this bag.
Once I safely made it to Brooklyn and found the Prospect Park YMCA…

I checked in and received my Jack Rabbit Sports Indoor Triathlon Series pint glass! Totally worth the wait.

I then received a tour and overview of how the day would work. The triathlon consisted of a 10 minute swim (no more than 2 people per lane), 30 minute bike (on a spin bike, the distance was measured), 20 minute run (on a treadmill, no incline). 15 minutes of transition were given between the swim and the bike, and 5 minutes between the bike and the run.
Overall, I would say it went really well! They had a few glitches with the bikes, so we ended up having more than 15 minutes to transition, but I am not complaining!
Swim: As I have mentioned before, I am a bit spoiled when it comes to pools. This was a smaller pool, but it did the job. My only complaint is that it was too warm for my liking. When you are swimming hard for 10 minutes in warm water = overheating!! I did 35 lengths, I am not sure exactly what distance the pool was, but I was happy with it!
Bike: The challenge here is that it was distance, so just looking at how many pedal strokes you made in the 30 minutes. This means the way to go is light resistance. Finding a balance between bouncing all over the place and having enough resistance but still going fast took a little bit, but it was a good 30 minutes for me. The distance calculator told me I biked 13.12 miles…that seems pretty far for me in 30 minutes, but oh well! Then it was on to the treadmill…
Run: This is where my tiredness hit me a bit, but I just eased back the speed and it was fine. I ran 2.4 miles, which I think is about 8:18 pace? I heard someone else say they ran 3.5! Clearly, they are fast.
It felt good to be done and I felt like I had a GREAT workout with just an hour of exercise. I then showered, changed and hit the streets of Brooklyn and NYC for some exploring! I did some shopping, some eating, and some people watching (and dog admiring). It was a great day, and it felt so good to be finding my way around all by myself!
Now I am exhausted and still have some housekeeping to do before bed time, so goodnight! I hope your favored team won the big game today! And I promise…It won’t be another week before we talk again!
~~~
What am I thankful for today? Google maps! I guess I wasn’t being completely honest when I said I did all of my navigating by myself…google helped me out- who knew google maps could help you identify different subway travel options?! For anyone going to a unfamiliar city anytime soon, and you don’t want to go broke taking taxis, I recommend you do your google mapping before too!
