Improve the Health of a Nebraska Small Business This Saturday

Posted Nov 24 2010 9:31pm

American Express declared Saturday, November 27th Small Business Saturday. The idea behind Small Business Saturday is to help promote a day to support the local businesses that create jobs, boost the economy and preserve neighborhoods around the country.

And since we all know good things come in small packages and sometimes even from small businesses, I thought I’d share a few ideas to get us all thinking small as we head out to do some holiday shopping…

10 Ways to Support the Health of Nebraska Small Businesses

  • 1. Jump start your power shopping with a strong cup of coffee or tea from your favorite locally owned coffee shop.
  • 2. Pamper anyone on your gift list (including yourself) with a gift card at a small business boutique, hair, nail, or massage salon.
  • 3. Schedule your family holiday portrait with a local photographer like Amber & Rob Photography in Elkhorn.
  • 4. Reserve a spot for your four-legged friends at a small business pet salon or boarding facility if you’re heading out of town this season.
  • 5. Stop for a healthy lunch at a locally owned restaurant like Green Belly or Dixie Quik’s if you happen to be shopping in Omaha.
  • 6. Support our local farmers by shopping at a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) to stock up on produce or reserve your turkey for your holiday feasts.
  • 7. Treat someone special to house cleaning or even snow removal services by a small business like Barger Concrete Repair & Snow Removal.
  • 8. Surprise someone with golf, yoga or dancing lessons from a small business professional.
  • 9. Swing by your favorite Pampered Chef, Arbonne , or Mary Kay consultants website for some fabulous stocking stuffers.
  • 10. Splurge for a personal training package or a few sessions with a dietitian like Jill Koegal’s Certified Nutrition of Omaha .

And while you’re out and about this Saturday…think small! Happy Shopping!

Now I really must go to the gym so I can drop a few pounds and a few bucks into the local economy!
