I had the terrific but somewhat terrifying experience of being a guest on the Ask Dr. Smiles radio program last Saturday. We had a lively discussion on nutrition and total body wellness and, more specifically nutrition for oral health. Never having been on live radio - I was understandably nervous, but my hosts were wonderful about putting me at ease and making me feel comfortable.
The morning also began on a somewhat stressful, but humorous note (looking back on it!). Here’s what happened:
I woke up very early full of nervous energy the morning of the broadcast, so to calm myself I decided to take a short run. It worked - after 3o minutes around the neighborhood, I felt much calmer. When I came back home, ready to jump in the shower, however, I tried unzipping my ancient (but favorite) running vest and the zipper wouldn’t budge. Not only that, but the zipper tag was bent sideways! I began to panic when I couldn’t get the vest to un-zip and nor could I get the zipped vest over my head. Needless to say my heart-rate was was higher than it had been during my run - as I had just enough time to shower, change clothes and drive to the studio - which I estimated was at least a 40 minutes from home. So what did I do? I grabbed a pair of scissors and literally cut myself out of the vest in order to get it off! The good news was that I found myself laughing at the ridiculousness of the situation - and immediately began to relax. The bad news is that I may have worn that vest for the last time!
If you missed Saturday’s broadcast and Sunday’s re-broadcast, the program is now available as a podcast. Please check it out. If you find it helpful you can also send it to a friend.
In addition to learning a bit about the world of radio broadcasting, I also discovered that the Dr. Smiles website has a host of helpful wellness resources.
