DARKNESS.

Last night the little man stayed up way past his bed time. We figured that he would sleep in to make up for that...definitely not the case. He was up A LOT earlier than normal and was CRANKY! So I have been up since 6:30, and had to wait for it to get light and a little warmer outside before I hit the road.

I’m not a dark/night time runner...watched too many CSI/NCIS shows to ever want to do that by myself!! Call me a pansy if you will, but I prefer SMART!

Once the sun came up I bundled up, did 3 warm-up pull-ups and was out the door. 8 miles was the goal for today. Most of the roads were carless and dry, which was nice! road1

This run had a few road blocks:

1. MASSIVE side ache. I don’t normally get side aches, but this sucker HURT! I wasn’t even 2 miles in and I had to walk for a couple minutes. It went away but then came back for most of the run. I just tried to tough it out.

roa, ice

2. TRECHEROUS ICY ROAD. I made it almost the whole run without having to face the ice. But then I hit this road. It was CRAP! I ended up having to walk it for 10 min and even then I fell down because it was so dang slick. (I should have listened to you Brindy!!)

In the end, I made it home without breaking anything and went 8.25 miles in 1:17 (adjusted for the ice time is 7.5 miles in 1:07) just over a 9 min/mile pace.

And this guy was a little happier when I got home too! DSC06740

The other reason for the post title:

In my church I teach teach 4-5 year old kiddos, so I was invited to their Primary activity today. Off I go to have some fun with the little ones!

[the post title is a song they sing...”Popcorn popping on the apricot tree”]
