Not about an upcoming event, but just plain old cold feet when I run! Brrr. Yesterday my poor husband had a case of the “man-cold” and so he stayed home sick from work. This generally had no effect on my day (except for the fact that it gave me a third “baby” to wipe noses and make meals for!) but it did have one huge benefit – I got to take my daytime run outside!
As a bit of a fall resolution, I have been trying to make the best use of my kids’ naptime. They are usually asleep or otherwise tucked away upstairs in their rooms from 1:00 pm until 3:30 pm – that’s a full 2.5 hours that I would usually just use to relax or nap myself. Since starting my WIMP plan in September though, I’ve been trying to be smarter and have started to use that time for my workouts and runs (thanks to my new best friend, the treadie). While I’d probably rather be on the couch, I feel so organized and proactive getting my running and strength training out of the way during the day.
Anyhow, back to the cold feet. So yesterday with the Hubs tucked in bed upstairs alongside the kiddos, I figured I could get outside and do my run instead. I had 5km on the schedule and it felt great. It was a beautiful sunny day, but awfully cold. I was wearing my new thermal running tights (love them), a tank top, a thin running jacket and my running gloves and it was just about the right combination to stay comfortably warm.
Except for my feet!
I have always run in Wright Socks double layer socks because they seem to help prevent blistering. But, in the cold winter months the old tootsies are feeling cold! Especially when I run in the rain and they are wet too.
I know many of you live in colder climates so if you have any good cold weather sock suggestions, I would love to hear them. My feet would thank you!
