I Get By With a Little Help from My {Fitness} Friends

Posted Sep 02 2011 10:07am

Hi guys, long time no blog! I’m still plugging away at the job search that’s eating up my writing mojo.

Along with the mojo stealing is the rollercoaster of confidence highs and lows that comes with a job search during a time when there is so much competition. Some days I feel completely confident that my resume is going to immediately grab hiring managers’ attention. Other days I feel the weight of competing against ridiculously high unemployment statistics and get a bit discouraged. However, it’s all part of the process and I know that in the end I will get an awesome job!

Whenever I’m feeling that discouragement creeping in, nothing boosts my mood like an awesome butt kicking workout. As I’ve mentioned before, I’m currently going sans gym membership and I love it. It’s forces me to be creative and take advantage of all of the fitness resources I have at home. I find the most helpful technique is using a little help from my fitness friends. Here are a few of my recent favs…

Zuzana and Freddie from Body Rock

Zuzana and Freddie are fitness geniuses and so friendly to boot. Not only do they create fun, effective, FREE workouts but the online Body Rock community always gives me a little extra boost of motivation when I need it most. My favorite way to use the Body Rock workouts is to combine two routines, incorporate jump roping, or add a few strength training exercises for an added boost.

Here’s the Body Rock routine I did yesterday…

  • 5 minutes jump roping (warm up)
  • 3 rounds of It’s So On Right Now! Workout  (Instead of 2) = 30 minutes
  • 5 minutes jump roping (fast)
  • cool down and stretch

Let’s just say that my body was indeed ROCKED.

Shaun T and Insanity

I purchased the  Insanity program  a couple of years ago when I had to leave extra early for my commute and didn’t have time to go to the gym in the morning. Shaun T is NOT messing around with this one – it’s high impact and high intensity.

I love popping an Insanity DVD into my laptop anytime I feel unmotivated to workout but know how good it will make me feel. The first round workouts last 40 to 45 minutes which is just right for a busy day. FYI if you do a little googling you can find great deals for new or lightly used Beachbody programs. I bought Insanity and Chalene Extreme for $40 each!

As I’m sure you know by now, Mosely is always ready to run . In fact, if it were up to him, we would run 10 miles each and every day.

Mosely wants to run

And she calls me a lazy bum. Mom, get your running shoes on and let’s go!

I’d love to hear from you…

What are your favorite at home workouts?
