If your child is lethargic or lazy, if he is inactive and/or overweight, NOW is the time to take drastic steps before permanent lifestyle habits take hold and become resistant to change.
As a parent you, (as do I) have a moral imperative to give your child every opportunity you can to live a full and healthy life. Anything short of this is child abuse.
Here are three tips to help you:
1. LEAD BY EXAMPLE-If you want your child to be more active, YOU must become more active. If you want your child to eat more healthfully, YOU must eat more healthfully. If you want your child to take better care of themselves and the environment as a whole, you must do the same.
2. Before you scold your child for a consistent pattern of bad behavior, please evaluate his diet and his chemical burden.
3. LET THEM PLAY!!! While soccer practice and tennis lessons are important, much more important to your child’s development is unstructured OUTDOOR PLAY. Like we did in our childhood. Running around, jumping up and down. Getting dirty (God forbid!).
