How To Prevent Hip Injuries and Fractures

Hip fractures have more than tripled over the past few years, and hip fracture patients occupy more hospital beds than any
other.

Hip fractures normally occur due to a bad fall, imbalance, vision problems, a wrong sized foot wear, lack of vitamin D needed to improve muscle strength.

To avoid the risk o f hip fracture, you may follow the tips like:
  • Boost your bones by eating a nutritious diet and get your daily dose
  • of vitamin D.
  • Shoes that have an improper fit make you feel uncomfortable. They affect your balance. So it is important that you select your footwear which fits you perfectly and is comfortable.
  • Get your eye vision checked regularly since your vision can affect
  • your balance. Sometimes adjusting to new glasses can increase the risk of a fall.
  •   Remove home hazards by clearing the clutter which may make you trip and fall, get rid of small rugs on the floor covering, improve lighting, attach grab bars in the bathrooms and use non-slip mats while bathing.
  • Practice yoga as the asana teaches your muscles to stabilize in awkward and unfamiliar positions.
  • Stretching for five minutes a day improves the balance of your body.
  • Maintain your body weight. A heavy body is more prone to injury and especially your hip can be badly injured if you are on the heavier side.
We need to bear in mind that hip injuries can be serious and leave us bed ridden and hence we need to bear this in mind and be careful and cautious
